  • 20-Hydroxyecdysterone

ECDY is a potential therapeutic and anabolic agent but does not alter sex hormone, transport globulins, does not alter liver function. Rather it helps correct lipid metabolism while being lung, liver, kidney, adrenal, thyroid and gut and brain protective.

Every abstract have read has been very promising for this plant steroid.

I will be running a log of ECDY if anyone is interested let me know and I will post general updates over here.

I'm still not clear what it is from what you've said but sounds interesting, what makes you think its potentially anabolic?

      How Does Ecdysterone Work?

Studies conducted in the Soviet Union in 1988 showed ecdysterone helps "increase hepatic protein synthesis and subsequently promote positive nitrogen balance!" How does this lead to more muscle mass? Simply: "the more nitrogen your body maintains and the greater rate of protein synthesis, the more muscle mass." How does ecdysterone do this? V. Smetanin, researcher of the Smolenk State Medical Institute in Russia speculated that ecdysterone decreases urea concentration in the body and increases hemoglobin levels by increasing a process called erythropoiesis. Erythropoiesis is the development of mature red blood cells. This leads to a stimulation of the anabolic process in protein metabolism, which in turn leads to a positive nitrogen balance in the body.
Sounds like a fancy new NO product. Honestly Slayer, I know your researching but you need to be careful not to believe everything you read when it comes to supplements. Now that PH and PS are banned, other than food and protien powder there's not really anything that will help you put on muslce.

I've seen ecdysterones out before, and they seemingly came and went, I'm not sure if they bring about the dramatic changes that their ads claim

Creatine will still help, and there are some ph's still out there. I would just be very carefull with them, and try to read up quite a but before jumping on the bandwagon, there is a wealth of informatin out there.

Trust me, I am not by any means looking for a "magic pill". After the PH/PS ban there were a whole new array of supplements that promised "steroid like results", obviously non of us believed them and their benefits outweighed the costs.

However, despite the short half life of ECDY, studies have shown it not to "alter sex hormone, transport globulins, does not alter liver function. Rather it helps correct lipid metabolism while being lung, liver, kidney, adrenal, thyroid and gut and brain protective."

It isn’t just another hyped up product, almost every single abstract have shown positive effects of ECDY Supplementation, and that it did in fact does everything I mentioned above without the physiological repercussions of AAS usage.

Attached is a great study regarding ECDY

            Ecdysteroids and physical performance
20E is claimed to have tonic properties (Abubakirov et al.,
1988). Indeed it stimulates muscle growth, provided that protein
supply is adequate. Such anabolic effects result in increased physical
performance without training (Chermnykh et al., 1988). This was
for instance demonstrated using the forced swimming test with rats:
animals given ecdysteroids for one week were able to swim for
significantly longer times (Azizov and Seifulla, 1998). These effects
are similar to those of anabolic steroids. 20E is also able to increase
muscle ATP content in vitamin D-deprived rats (Kholodova et al.,
            1997).

            Ecdysteroids and protein synthesis
Stimulatory effects of ecdysone on protein synthesis were
reported as early as 1963 (Burdette and Coda, 1963), and the
discovery of phytoecdysteroids made these molecules available in
large amounts for pharmacological assays. It was rapidly shown
that ecdysteroids were able to stimulate protein synthesis in mouse
liver (Okui et al., 1968; Otaka et al., 1968, 1969a&b). In fact, it
was shown that 20E stimulates the incorporation of [14C]leucine in
a cell-free translation system (rat liver polysomes), i.e. it increases
the efficiency of the translational machinery (Syrov et al., 1978).
Such conclusions have been confirmed and extended to other tissues,
especially heart and muscles (Syrov et al., 1975a; Aizikov et al.,
1978; Khimiko et al., 2000). Recent structure-activity studies (Syrov
et al., 2001) as measured by a stimulation of [14C] aminoacid
incorporation into proteins showed that among the compounds tested
turkesterone was the most active, followed by cyasterone and 20E.

            Ecdysteroids: a “universal medicine”?
An impressive number of papers dealing with ecdysteroid
effects are available in the literature. They concern almost every
physiological function, and we will give below a brief insight of
the published data. It must be noted, however, that in many instances
that, in addition to the difficulties caused by language barriers, the
experiments are not always described with all the desirable details.
Ecdysteroids stimulate hepatic functions: 20E accelerates
recovery after hepatitis induced by heliotrine treatment (Syrov et
al., 1981b). 20E and other ecdysteroids (turkesterone, cyasterone)
administered (10 mg/kg) to rats with hepatitis induced by
subcutaneous injection of carbon tetrachloride prevent its
hepatotoxic action (Syrov et al., 1992). Moreover, a pretreatment
with 20E (5 mg/kg) for one week will reduce the effects of a
subsequent heliotrine treatment (Badal’yants et al., 1996).

Ecdysteroids improve heart and lung function: 20E has
been recommended for the prevention of myocardial ischaemia,
arrhythmia and is described as enhancing VEGF expression (Wu,
2001). An antiarrhythmic effect of 20E was also reported by
Kurmukov and Yermishina (1991) and Yang et al. (1996), and an
extract of Leuzea carthamoides containing high amounts of 20E
also showed a similar effect (Maimeskulova and Malslov, 2000).
In rabbits experimentally rendered atherosclerotic (by a high
cholesterol diet), 20E (10 mg/kg/day per os) given for 28 days was
able to increase Na+/K+ ATPase in myocardium (Khushbaktova et
al., 1987). Intravenous injection of 20E showed also a therapeutic
effect after lung contusion (Wu et al., 1997, 1998a).

Ecdysteroids improve renal function: when rats are given
            a nephrotoxic mixture (uranyl acetate + glycerol), 20E (5 mg/kg)
seems thereafter able to restore a normal glomerular filtration rate
and to suppress albuminuria (Saatov et al., 1999; Syrov and
            Khushbaktova, 2001).

Ecdysteroids and the immune system: various
immunomodulatory effects of ecdysteroids have been described.
            20E (10-20 mg/kg/day per os) has antiinflammatory
properties similar to cortisone acetate in rats and mice (Kurmukov
and Syrov, 1988; Fomovska et al., 1992) and turkesterone improves
lung defence mechanisms in diabetic rats (Najmutdinova and Saatov,
            1999). 20E was shown to inhibit in a dose-dependent fashion (10-9-
10-4 M) histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells induced by
anti-IgE or concanavailin A (Takei et al., 1991). Taniguchi et al.
(1997), however, could not observe any antiinflammatory effect of
20E given orally to rats (5 mg/kg/day for 7 days).

            Conclusion
Ecdysteroids are probably the most abundant steroids in
nature because they are produced not only by arthropods, but also
by many plant species. They seem to display a wide array of
pharmacological effects on vertebrates, many of which are
beneficial. However, these claims require more thorough validation
and clinical testing. Ecdysteroids are used by an increasing number

Attached is a chart summarizing its effects on mammals.

be careful where you get it from bro. make sure it comes from rhaponticum carthamoides (aka: leuzea carthamoides, maral root). there r more than one plant species that produce ecdysterone. the leuzea is unmatched as far as potency. also, it is much more effective if u take the entire root extract instead of just the ecdysterone extract. there are more active ingredients in the root also. this is why ecdysterone products have "come and gone" because people do not often realize this. let me know how things go tho.

Scivation has offered the opportunity to test out their new supplement "Anagen" and I accepted it.

Thanks for your post JDog3497, Scivation has lab tested theirs for potency and purity, I cant not disclose the specifics as of yet.

I will be running two logs, one at Mind and Muscle and the other at BulkNut.

Will do, I also believe plant origin has a factor.

Most of the studies that show efficacy seem to be derived Leuzea Carthamoides. Some have been using a different plant origin for ECDY and that could possibly have resulted in the lack of effectiveness.

Scivation's Anagen is derived from Rhaponticum carthamoides, which is the same as Leuzea Carthamoides.

It's pure bullshit, Hydroxyedysone is a steroid produced in bugs and works on specific receptors that do not exist in man. Save your money instead of spending it on this bullshit. Ecadysterone surfaces every 10 years or so then fades away because it doesn't do shit.

20-Hydroxyecdysone (ecdysterone or 20E) is a naturally occurring ecdysteroid hormone which controls the ecdysis (moulting) and metamorphosis of arthropods. It is therefore one of the most common moulting hormones in insects, crabs, etc. It is also a phytoecdysteroid produced by various plants, including Cyanotis vaga, where its purpose is presumably to disrupt the development and reproduction of insect pests. In arthropods, 20E acts through the ecdysone receptor. Although mammals lack this receptor, 20E does appear to affect mammalian (including human) physiology, but there is disagreement over the details of its effects. 20E is an ingredient of some preparations that aim to enhance physical performance.
