    I have what may be an uneducated question, but I've looked around and can't figure it out for the life of me...appologies in advance if I'm a dumbass.

    I take R-ALA right now for it's nutrient partitioning abilities and its liver protection value but I have a question regarding it as an insulin mimicker as stated in some of the product lit i've seen...

    If it spikes insulin and drops blood sugar (which it seems to do with me), can I take it PWO like someone would take real slin? Of course it won't be anywhere near the effectiveness rate of real slin, but might it help in the same manner, if only marginally? I mean I'm taking it anyways...

    I guess it'd be marginally better than taking nothing, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it won't even be CLOSE to as effective as slin in putting muscle (or fat) on you

      i figured it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as real slin, but any help is still help...

          i'm starting it next week PWO...but it may be hard to quantify. I do know that I've taken an R-ALA before a meal and then had that meal unexpectedly delayed and it left me really light headed, hence my thinking that it might be usefull PWO...I'll let you all know how it works.

            I've taken ALA and R-ALA and didn't notice any difference. I have switched to just ALA since it's a bit cheaper. But if that dosn't matter, I would go with the rule of "it may not help, but it couldn't hurt".

              Its a good idea, and is used in many PWO supplements!

                Ok, dont' take this the wrong way, but I want to hear YOUR opinions on why R-ALA is a good idea.

                  When I said good idea, I was referring back to the original post, in combining R-ALA with a PWO Shake.

                  IMO ALA has many applications in both performance and health.
                  Some benefits include: An increase in oxygen uptake, stabilization in blood sugar, helps protect in conjunction with other antioxidant supplements the oxidative stress induced by exercise and improves cognitive functions while being kidney, and liver protective.

                  It would work great in conjunction with vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin a , Selenium and N-acetyl cysteine.

                    my reasoning, as uninformed as it might be was based merely on personal experience and my limited understanding of what the product does (shuttle nutrients, etc)

                    I tend to take 100-200mg a day; one with a high carb meal and one with my pwo shake...I originally started R-ala for it's liver protection properties.

                      I have read the studies and they make similar claims. I just never felt that there is really any difference in R-ALA and ALA, nor have I talked to somone that was impressed by R-ALA. That's why for me I don't feel like spending the extra money on it. I know for most it's not a big deal though.

                        Why dont you take some time off it and see if you notice a difference, or better yet go with EAA / BCAA / Leucine instead.

                          I havn't taken R-ALA in about a year becuase it just didn't feel it was worth anything more.
