  • Glutamine and CLA

    I am recently training with a partner again, and training heavy with H.I.T

    I am thinking about adding glutamine for recovery since my protein powder doesn't have any. Any thoughts on this?


    Also, i wanted to add CLA to help trim some of the fat off. I changed my cardio routine, and i am now doing cardio Sunday-Wednesday first thing in the morning for 45 minutes. I am fast walking and sometimes in the evenings my girl either wants to play tennis or walk around a lake. Weight is dipping under 210lbs but will still fluctuate between 209-212.

      Yeah, i agree on YJ found good articles and knew what he was saying. Agreed on these articles being a few years old, but still its good to read up on some of it. Would like to see current articles on glutamine and its effects on the body.

            Liftsiron and YJ produced many studies purporting glutamines ineffectiveness at pure muscle building, however many bodybuilders swear by it and lets face not everything we take is for muscle growth, some of it is to assist the body at other things and spare the remaining nutrition/energy so that it can go twoards fuel and muscle repair.

            Glutamine is said by some to assist digestion and immune function. I don't currently use it either.

                      Not sure I follow. It has been documented that glutamine does little to nothing for athletic performance or bodybuilding. On the other hand, its efficacy in assisting the recovery of burn patients has been pretty well established.

                      Look at this for example:

                      Glutamine Improves Outcomes in Burn Patients

                      Laurie Barclay, MD

                      Oct. 24, 2003 — Enteral glutamine supplements reduce blood infections and mortality in burn patients, according to the results of a prospective, controlled, randomized trial published in the October issue of Critical Care Medicine.

                      "Enteral glutamine supplements have been shown to reduce infectious morbidity in trauma patients, but their effect on burn patients is not known," write Dominique Garrel, from the University of Montreal in Quebec, Canada, and colleagues.

                            fuck the bs studies people who use it love it. it cant hurt. i would say its no better or worse than any of the other amino acids. no single amino acid is going to do all that much i would take them all with it.
