my guess would be run, pushups, situps, pullups, climb rope and just overall hardness and the will to survive will get you through. but then again I have no idea since I never went into the sercvice. LOL

Run, Push Ups, Sit Ups. Oh, and run some more. I went in at 18yrs old and 135lbs. Skinny as hell. 3 big meals a day in the chow hall and some good P.T. and I got out at a solid 147lbs. and felt like a king. That is all you will do is run, push-up, sit-up, and hike everywhere.

Yeah, run until your muscles burn, and your veins pump battery acid.. Then, run some more.. ;)

The PT test is set to your age group, you'll have 2 minutes to perform as many push-ups/sit-ups as you can.. You will do push-ups first, sit-ups after.. When done and graded in points, you'll have to run 2 miles in a set amount of time..

I had an old PT chart handy from my old armory, can't figure the age brackets for you.. Simple thing: train yourself to do as many push-ups as possible, time them if you can.. Do the same for sit-ups, find a good way for you to bang them out..

Hint: You can drop the angle of your knees abit, instead of your heels nearly touching your taint, keep them around 45degrees or so, then bang out 20 reps, rest 2 seconds, bang out another 20.. You'll do 100 in less than 1.5minutes, if your abs are strong enough.. ;)

I'm 19. I think i'm supposed to do 42 puh-up and 53 sit-ups in 2 min. and 2 miles in 15:52. then after the age of 21, the requirements start going down. But thanks for all the info. run till i puke and then run some more till i puke again, then run more. got it.

Bigpetefox, i don't really understand what you were saying about my knees and them being taint. Could you explaine that a little more?

              Here's an easier way:

Sit on the floor with your knees bent, and wrap your arms around them.. You're in a sit-up position, yes? Well, I was actually joking about the taint part, but go back to having your knees bent in that position, and straighten out little by little.. You have to keep a bend in your knees to do the sit-ups right, but the traditional way of sit-ups uses too much hip flexor..

Don't sweat it if you don't understand, I'm hungry and yappin'.. :D

are you sure its just 2 miles?

because before i went in the Marines they had us do an IST (initial strength test) which we had to run 1.5 miles in under like 12 minutes, but the actual PFT they give you in boot camp and once every year going forward its a 3 mile run.

Far as I know, the Army is still 2 miles. You are correct about the Initial Test to kind of see where you are.

sorry bigpete, i thought you were talking about push-up. couldn't figure out how to keep my knees at a 45 degrees and do push-ups. I was tired and it was late. oh well.

I tried your tip for sit-ups. Did 20 more then what i could the day before. thanks.

The Marines had a more rigorous regiment for fitness needs..

you know I really expected Marine Corp. boot camp to be a lot harder physically. I mean it was hard but not nearly as much running as I had thought.
I think what separates the Marines from the other services as far as Basic goes is the mental trial they put you through.

I dont know from experience, so anyone in the know correct me, but i have heard that in Army basic you get phone priveleges almost daily.....I got 1 10 minute phone call durring 3 months boot camp, and no one i knew was home.

I heard that you get weekends off towards the end of Army basic.....we got an hour of free time on Sundays along with one news paper that was passed around for that hour.

I heard that in Army basic you can actually talk in the mess hall......we had to have our heels together with feet at a 45 degree angle with our left hand on our left knee and eyes not allowed to look away from our tray. And of course no talking.

and they dont go any easier on you as time goes by, we lived like this for the entire 3 months, we were treated no better then the very first day we arrived up until the last day.........that stuff takes a heavy toll on your phsycological well being after 3 months.

Not trying to take anything away from anyone whos served in another branch, you all have my equal respect. Just pointing out that the mental aspect of Marine boot camp is what makes it tougher, not so much the physical.

i don't know about the getting a weekend pass towards the end of basic or the phone calls but the rest sounds right. I just have to remember to turn away the mail package that says: "Your Porno has arived". My cousin who is a First Lt. in the army says he's going to send me that jus to see if i accept it. hehe.
