  • 2 squeeze or not 2 squeeze

    When doing exercises like bench press or tricep extensions...or anything else is it good to squeeze at the top of the movement of just go up and down without squeezing?

    yes the contraction of a muscle is good. using every once of fiber strength will give the muscle a good reason to grow to protect itself. remember you are trying to make it grow which it doesn't want to do.

          Well i tried it today and mann the intensity wasss sooo good. I really felt the muscle working 2 its ful potenital......Believer maybe u should try it.

            well just ask yourself how a muscle is threatened into growing, by using a physical exertion that says to it "Uh oh I better grow and get stronger to be able to handle that load again in the future". so if you are contracting harder at the top, which is really what it is not just squeezing, then it seems that that would lead to greater and faster gains than just lifing a weight without a good contraction.

              yeah, but be careful, you don't want to overwork the tricep on bench press, so when you squeeze at the top of a bench press, you are using a lot of your tricep

                Agreed, the squeeze on the final part of the contraction makes a big difference.

                It also pumps fresh blood and oxygen into the muscles

                  Nothing gives my chest a pump like coming off a three weeks of not doing cross-overs and doing them with a 2 second sqeeze at the top of the movement.

                    i like the squeeze on flyes, but ive never tried it on bench.

                      I think it helps to squeeze, the contraction makes me feel like I am working that much harder, but isn't it more for concentration excersizes?

                        Be careful...strong contraction when using heavy weights sometimes = injury, tears, etc...

                          SQUEEZE. But not on your heavy days. Save it for your moderate workouts.

                            Squeezing helps just like flexing the muscles you have worked. It also helps in the mind to muscle connection...IMO
