  • DB Deadlifts?

Due to some circumstances, I am forced to lift at the gym at work for a few months. It does not have any barbell weights but is pretty well equipped (for me anyway) with dumbbells all the way to 120lb and an assortment of machines (for pulldowns, etc.).

My question is - is it possible to get an effective DL routine with DBs? Should I put the DBs in front of me just like a barbell DL, or should they be on the side?

Or am I just wasting my time?

Any pointers would be welcome - I think I can get a reasonable replacement for all my other barbell exercises with dumbbells - the only places where I have to compromise are squats (do only leg presses) and DLs.

    Thanks!

Yeah I don't see why not , just hold em in front of you. Should work just fine. It'll actually do you some good in changing your normal way of doing deads, you may even see some quick results. Anyway you can hit a muscle at a different angle will put your muscles into "shockmood" and you will definately feel the difference. I try to switch from db's, to bb's to cables on most of my workout every 2-3 weeks.
As for squats if they have a setup there with 2 low cables try doing cable squats..

You can pull the cables up to shoulder length with each arm, kinda like your holding a barbell...then get in the squat position and basically just do them like normal. Most barbell or dumbbell exercise can be converted over to cables or bands.

Last month i went on vacation and brought my bands with me and was able to do a full workout each day.

Yeah, bro.... they worked out pretty good. Didn't quite hit me the way I am used to (no surprise there I suppose) but it was a good supplement to the leg press machine. I'll make it a standard part of my routine for the next couple of weeks and I am sure I'll get used to it....

                Thanks for the tip!
