  • Body Fat??

How could I measure my body fat?? I almost positive that's the reason why my definition isn't showing, it's hiding under body fat. What percentage of body fat is good?

body fat is the only reason besides a high degree of water retention that you won't see muscle separation. and those two usually go hand in hand. For a growing male you should probably be around 10-13%. the only time I would go under that is for a Bodybuilding show or if you are a competive athlete and need to shed some weight to better your performance. Calipers have an error percent of 5-8 so to me they are about worthless. one of the best ways and least expensive is to take updated photographs but they must be done in a controlled enviroment and done the same exact way every time so that comparing them actually means something. there are more expensive ways to measure it but they range in the thousands of dollars so unless you are loaded I would forget about that. LOL

One way that I have had my BF measured is by a DEX machine It is a fairly new process and it is not that expensive. the problem is finding one in your area. luckly we have one at the local University. You lie down on a the machine and it has an arm that scans your whole body. Its linked through a computer and gives you a couple of neat graphs of the bf areas. it even measures the fat in your ear. It is supposed to be the most accurate. There was a much higher % with the machine than with the caliper.

yeah there are a lot of different ways to measure bf, some more accurate than others. But yeah you could just do what stonecold said take some pictures every once in while and you'll be able to better tell a difference. It will give you a better visual

If you are talking about a DXA scan then it is not easy for the general public to get one to determine bodyfat. They are expensive and are primarily used for people who might have osteoporosis. However, it is the gold standard and the MOST accurate and determining bodyfat percentage.
