  • abs...everyday?

    Hey guys. Have this ab routine i do every nite and so far i mean from diet an excercise my stomache and region ive been working on has been going down. But im not sure if this is due to the abs. I still have that layer of fat im trying to knock off dieting and excercising and doing about 25 mins of abs a night. But should i be doing this every nite? is it ok to? Because i feel like i should otherwise from the dieting im doing i will have extra skin i lost alot and still am loosing some or in the long run does it help to do them every other nite since they are muscles and im just using my resistance i figured i can just do every nite. Is this wrong help me out plz. Which ever will show better results let me know please.

    I don't think its right to train any muscle group every night, they need time to recover to develop. If you're going to do them so much, don't do more than every other night, but personally i wouldn't do them more than twice a week tops.

      You can't spot reduce fat. Your abs are the last thing to show. You can do all the abs you want but if you don't get your body fat low enough you will never be able to tell. You said you have "loose" skin. How much have you lost?

        abs are the same as every other muscle. should be trained once a week at the maximum. 2-3 sets of weighted exercises should be fine. america has no idea what abs are anymore.

            I hope we all do. LOL otherwise we would look like rubber chickens. like it was stated before everyone has abs, you just have to burn the layer of bodyfat off by dieting.

                    SC, abs really aren't like other muscle groups though are they? i mean is the purpose of doing abs to get them to stick out 22 inches like your bi's? i always was under the impression that you want them to be as tight as can be, wth the most definition possible. eod i think would be fine but 25 minutes might be too long. juka if you don't mind me asking just what the hell are you doing for 25 minutes? mine don't take longer than 10 to do, and i can hardly sit up when i'm done. but i don't do weighted reps though.

                      Another tip is not to do your obliques too often as this can result in a bulky waistline.....

                        as far as being skeletal muscle they are the same. I don't know where the reference to BIs came in from but I don't think abs wil ever look like that. I guess I was referring to my own workouts. My total time for working out chest is about 6 minutes of Time under tension and that is about the same for abs. that is why I said it should be trained like any other muscle group. and if for some reason you think your abs are getting to big then just stop working them out.

                          i just meant that i've always felt that they could be worked eod, or even ed because your goal isn't the same as say chest or bi's which would be to make them grow as much as possible to get as big as possible. and working obliques won't necessarily give you a blocky waistline face, and if your body structure is made up that way then just grow your lats. SC i don't understand your workouts, i get the time under tension part, but when do you go up in weight? how do you keep track of your progress?

                            I have an goal for time under tension. so for instance on biceps I try and get 45-50 seconds for a set. I will pick a weight for that and when my sets go over that time, then i will increase the weight so my time under tension goes down to about 40-45 seconds again and then repeat that. i use a logbook to keep track of progress. and I would say regarless of your goals your muscles and body react the same to the stressor. so it is not a good thing to overtrain any muscle. people always have the same goals. lose bodyfat or gain muscle. if you want more visible abs, lose bodyfat. if you want bigger ones then just work them out.

                              the thing with abs is most people just want to do tons of crunches and crap and expect their abs to get ripped and stick out. They will get toned from all the crunches, but they're just like any other muscle in that they have to be torn down so they can build back up. If you do hard abs 1, maybe 2 days a week, weighted like cable crunches and the likes, you don't have to do them for 30 minutes or anything... u can do 4 sets of 10 heavy weight cable crunches and that will do fine. Once you build muscle in the abdomen, they will stick out more, especially if u burn fat off. This is the biggest misconception with abs... they won't get ripped and stick out from doing crunches 30 minutes a day everyday
