  • Deadlifts Rawk!

In the pursuit of getting a massive back and traps I have been doing alot of research and reading about the benifits of deadlifts. I did 3 sets of deads last night and I totally loved it. traps and back felt the burn good. My hams are a little sore this morning. Didn't realize that legs were involved too. If you have a lacking back and traps and you want to get them massive, go for the deadlift.

from my experience make sure you increase in SMALL increments in weight as you progress with deadlifts. Form should be the number one thing to look for in deads. that is what will get you good progress. I find that 5 pound increases from workout to workout are good. If you jump up to fast in weight which most guys do because the movement sometime allows that their form almost immediatley starts lacking. Remember the weak links are the ones that will hold you back. Your erector spinae and grip are what will give out first so be careful.

yes, I know I moved up to fast and pulled a muscle in my lower back. Put me out completely for a week and then had to slowly come back. All because of one rep. Started to lift it barely got it up, felt a pinch. Didn't bother me at first but come than night and days after I could barely move. Wasn't worth the risk to me after that. So be very careful and focused.

I probably should be doing dead lifts, but I am so cautious since my back injury. I need some advice on form as well.

Oh absolutely... it seems that no matter what exercise you do, your back can get hurt so easy if you use improper form... I've always said that I'd rather see someone training with low weight and perfect form than some hot shot slinging shit all over the place with no form trying to be MR. Badass.

              :agree:

i sometimes use the diamond bar to dead lift. I find that alot easier and it uses more legs.

im always afraid of doing deads cuz i dont know what weight to start on... I dont wanna do too much. But if i keep adding then by the time i get to a weight thats suitable how suitable is it from wasting all my energy lifting all the others trying to figure it out... ugh.

it should only take a few workouts to gauge where you should be.

for my college lacrosse training program I have to deadlift and power clean on the same day. I dont understand why because both tire you out.

I love powercleans though, I know if can easily injure you if not done right but I learned on just the bar and built up on my weight. I still have a fear of hurting my back but nothing feels better then a good set of powercleans.

Cleans are a great exercise for explosive strength...Just about tore a trap right of the bone in college going too heavy on cleans. Makes me shiver thinking about it.

oh god why did you tell me that. i was already afraid of doing 3 sets with 25lbs at teh end of my workouts but ive moved on to 35lbs but i cant do 3 sets with it.

im afraid with deadlift that i will pull my back if i start to feel tired and dont do it right.
