  • Crossovers from below?

Hi guys, just a a quick question. Are crossovers from below effective for building the upper and inner chest or is it a waste of time.

    Thanks in advance.

someone told me cross overs arent for developing or building the muscle. But they will help u be more defined once u already achieve a nice build in the chest... well thats what someone told me anyways on this forum

there are only two states the body has, building muscle and losing fat. losing fat is part of the diet and building muscle is from lifting weights. there is no such thing as a defining movement or mass movement. its building muscle plain and simple.

and just do the crossovers the normal way. your chest only has one origin and insertion to contract from. do the movement that will give you a maximum contraction and you will hopefully stimulate muscle if everything else is right in the workouts.

oooh but SC what about the way the chest tends to "twist" by the Greater Tubercle...and the fact that the PM actually Origionates @ 3 Different locations as well (Medial Clavicle, Sternum and interior ribs)

***That sounded like i was trying to be some type of smart ass...NOT THE CASE ... I have always been focused on strenght and power movements (compound). The Cable cross nomally used to help people learn how to Isolate their chest and not involve their shoulders (or do any other type of fly utilizing a direct line of Loading)

Hitting the cables from different angles (if nothing else) involves your mind in a different way. IF you think you are feeling a different result ... then you probably will! This is not to say that if you concentrated on teh Upper/inner portion of your chest during a flat bench press that you could not do the same thing...the trick is that you have to believe it :) !!!!!!

            :)

it is ALWAYS a question of resistance...

but just to clear up something...CableXover do NOT burn fat off of your chest, Sit-ups do NOT burn fat from your gut, tricep extensions do NOT burn your grandma's "wavey arm", and chewing gum does NOT make your face skinny!!!

RESISTANCE is always the key to how your training...rep ranges determine the objective (or that backwards)! Anyway if your rep range is 8-10 that does not mean that when you get past eight that you can stop before 10, reguardless of fatigue, and achieve your desired result. Rep range is a GUIDE to help you determine how much weight to use===meaning that if your rep range is 8-10 you pick a weight that you can do at least 8 times but NO MORE than 10 and if you get to 10....ohhh you get to use more weight!!!!

If you follow that rule --Even on cables-- you will grow :) It is a tough exercise (advanced) that is hard to handle alot of weight with. The level of difucluty involved is why people often mistake it as an exercise to help...uhh cut. Elite level Athletes (guys that are already cut) use Cables as a good finishing exercise for a couple of reasosns: It usually has to be done with less weight making it a Higher rep-range lift...and helping give a complete pump (from the higher rep range), Also it requires a higher level of NeuroMuscluar Activation (NMA) and can exaust (or at least stimulate) your pec's more completely. That is the reason people refer to this exercise as a cutter...it actually helps bring out ome striations because it can stimulate some fiber that broader movements just do not.

if your just starting out or are looking to "cut" there are better ways to get a nice chest.

 That was funny (but very true). I under stand about that muscle movements can be complex internally but for most of these guys I try to keep it simple. most people are having a hard time understanding simple terminology and cause and effect mechanisms in the arena of exercise science.

I got ya SC... I still laugh at the women on the ab/ad machines trying to get that "not so elephant" look for their thighs. I just want to pull them into my office and give them a 30 min crash course...but that would take them away from their SMOOTHIE time
