you work out in the morning like me... what are your thoughts on it inhibiting gains?

i keep reading stuff on how your cortisol levels are elevated and that you are over-stressing your body... but i acutally wake up more after a good morning workout, when i go and just do cardio, i'm drag assy.

    comments?

I've been thinking about switching to morning workouts since I eat more during the day. I would like to hear as well.

I've thought about this as well, but I feel the lack of carbs would be detrimental to my workout. I'd say as long as you do cardio after your workout, you'll help to flush out a lot of cortisol.

i have made up lifting sessions in the evenings when i've only had time to do cardio in the mornings and i feel that i don't suffer any major strength changes if i lift at 5AM or 5PM.

i mean, i know theoretically that you're "strongest" at certain times of the day... but - i mean, it's not like it's a powerlifting match... it shouldn't matter that much right?

I am talking about chronic levels of cortisol, I love working out in the AM too, it wakes me up too. cardio wakes me up, not sure why it makes you drag butt. It is a build up not an acute affliction.

you can't flush out cortisol with more stress.

For me it's more of a lack of energy from the lack of carbs in the morning. It mostly only effects me on strength, so endurance wise should be no problem. We'll see what stone says.

I read about a study where they showed that athletes had higher levels of cortisol when they didn't do cardio compared to those who did. They also stated lactic acid levels were lower as well. I'm just the messenger.

there might be a drop in cortisol but I would have to see what level of intensity they were using. But you are right about lactic acid being dropped with a proper cool down.

its more about long-term. So am or pm won't matter much (there could be slight differences depending on ones preferences).

I would say its more about what you ate the day before that would make a difference in your energy level. also the nervous system needs a warmup as well to become fully effecient.
