  • Old shoulder injuries

Have any of you had shoulders that are prone to dislocation. I've battled this my entire life. I've been told it is genetic and due to lax tendons. Shoulder presses behind the neck put me at risk, so I only do front military presses combined with upright rows , side raises and lateral raises and shrugs. It seems that once a shoulder finds its way out in knows the way from then on. Since I've been doing this routine, my shoulders are feeling quite a bit tighter. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I have heard upright rows are very bad for the shoulder capsule. Not very good if you already have a bad shoulder. Do you do db presses? I feel these would put less strain on the shoulder since you're not locked in a certain path like with the bb.

No, I haven't been doing db presses. I can definitely see that doing upright rows could put undo stress on the shoulder capsule. I don't believe or at least hope I haven't damaged the labrum in the joint. ( This is both shoulders by the way) Since I've been back into it for about 10 months now they do feel much more stable. I'll start db presses and stop uprights and see how it goes.

for what its worth - over the years I have seen a number of articles that say don't do shoulder presses behind the head and don't lower the bar below your ears. Supposedly, both of those moves put a bad force on some of the shoulder muscles.

I have heard that. In fact, somewhat old news. I quess what I was trying to say is that this particular position or others simular are risky in my case. I just tend to aviod them.
