  • personal trainer says i do it all wrong.

ive been talking to this trainer at my gym for a while now, and hes been asking me to work out with him...i did today, because i wanted him to help me with my squats because i can never get them to be comfortable. this dude obviously was just trying to get me to use him as a trainer. he said the workouts i do arent good enough and i need to do this "fast twitch fiber" bullshit. on top of that, he said he would get me to where i want to be in 2 months gauranteed. Then, he took my bodyfat and said it was too highk, even though it was at 10.6. his was 4.2, so mine was high. guy basicly saying just lifting heavy all the time is the wrong way to do it and only he knows everyone else on here is wrong:drunk: he had me doing a bunch of jumping and squatting with no or little weights..and when he went to show me how to squat with the bar, i couldnt reach my arms in back of my head to grab it, i either need to stretch more, or my arms are just too short to grab it, what do you think?

i hear crap like that all the time from people who im way bigger than. Its basically what makes u feel good and all, not all training methods one does will be better for others. I had to leanr the hard way, doing different routines to really find out what did the trick for me. So i know what works for me and what doesnt.

I take advice once in a while on performing new exercieses i havent done, to properly do them. I do them light since im new to the new workouts, so basically within time i increase the weight.

First of all @10.6% you are not fat what I am guessing is this guy is just trying to take your money.I am a personal trainer and I won't let my clients do anything before I findout what they wanna achieve. Did you tell him what your goals are?are you trying to put some size or lose more bf? or just trying to maintain and learn proper technique. He should have asked all these questions to you before he let you do all that crazy shit.

yeah he did want to hear my goals, i said i wanted to be around 160 ripped, he wanted me to get bigger and lose bodyfat at the same time, i said i was going to bulk and lean out later which he said is the wrong way to do it, so....i guess all these pro bb'ers are doing it wrong too?

Before you hire him just fire him I can tell, you allready know more than this guy. you are on the right track you can't get big and lose bf at the same time.because you have to fallow different diet plans for either goals. how much do you weigh now? even if you wanna bulk up now, make sure you still have good balance diet.I know to many guys who became a junk food junkie to bulk up if you do that you put on hardly any muscle and whole lot of body fat. just eat right and train hard and you could add about 20 min light cardio eod to keep your metabolism.

I have a friend that I used to work out with beofre I told him to go ride his bicycle and shut up, that would always come in with his Men's Health mag wanting to do the shit in there or correcting my form, especially when doing cheat curls. Basically I ended up telling him that I have different goals than him and he, well needed to ride the bicycle and leave the weights to real men.

I just hate when people try to solicite you uneedded advice

you need to stretch more to hold the bar. there's NO REASON whatsoever that you shouldn't be flexible enough to hold the bar to do a squat.

go take a few yoga classes. SERIOUSLY.

i'm 5'4" and i hold the bar just fine. it's about flexibility not how long your arms are. and you don't even have the basic flexibility down.

and also - he's most likely bullshitting you if he says he maintains 4.5% b/c that is approximate contest bodyfat % and essentially barely enough fat on your body to keep your vital organs functioning. just tell him he looks small and fat.

you are right, alot of the stuff he told you is not right for your goals. i really wouldnt say anything he said was "bullshit" (except the 4.5 body fat, yeah right!) if your 140 lbs i would be taking advice from anyone i could and at least considering it. its one thing to dismiss someone who is at an equal level with you or less, but when you dont even know how to squat with proper form, you could defenitly benefit from some guidance. be it professional, or just someone who's been lifting for a while, plus when u first are learning any new lift, especially squats, u should use little or no weight. check the ego at the door. as far as the plyometrics(explosive) it's not bad for you at all. it may not be within your goals, but as long as technique is there and you dont overdue it, they are great for sports enhancement. good luck to you bro, and dont be afraid to ask other more experienced lifters for help
