Most body builders have a strange fear of body in motion excercises that deal only with body weight...
I feel that they give you increased definition and mabey even increased size. And if anything it definately strengthens the tendons of the involved muscles.
Look at any hardcore competative wrestler...and see if he has definition...they are strictly body in motion same weight excercisers.
I do them...I love them....especially swooping, or superman pushups...gives the entire pec a nice burn.

no doubt ...but that doesnt mean a killer wrestler workout wont add some size and crazy definition to your body. Some people dont really wanna go the bb route and are looking for that wrestler/boxer type look.Originally posted by YellowJacket
A wrestler isnt a bodybuilder though.
to each his own I guess.

Pushups are not recommended because of the restricted ROM. They cannot compare to BB and DB presses for this reason alone, nevermind the fact that there is no weight behind them. They are ok if used in conjunction with a regular chest routine, but pushups by themselves will only give you limited results and in the end could comprimise gains.

agreed. I was only pointing out that these types of athletes DO in fact use p ups in their routines and that they train differently than bb's.Originally posted by Aurora
To add: Boxers and Wrestlers understand the limits of pushups and do not use them exclusivley. You must use weights to attain a "boxer look".
