  • shins feel like they're going to explode

that's about the only way i can describe the feeling.

whenever i walk on the treadmill, i can't do it for longer than 10 min b/c my shins feel like they're ready to burst.

what can i do to fix it?

is it your shin bone or the muscle underneath? does it feel like a really intense pump underneath the bone that is painful to the touch? number one they are to the point where you need to take time off to let them heal. I just got over really bad shin splints that took 2 months to completely heal. number two you should do some anterior tibialis work if you don't already. basically toe raises using a DARD (dynamic axial resistance device, they can be bought online, I have my own now because most gyms don't carry them). use it once or twice a week for 1-3 sets total just like a normal gym set to strength the front of the calf muscles.

no, it's a muscle pain. like a really intense pump. the muscle is completely pumped when i touch it. not a shin splint, i guess more like front calf muscle pain.

so its the muscle that kind of sits on the side of your shin bone but its on top? in that case I would do the same thing with the DARD. All trainers should use them. But I will tell you the muscle itself has a tendency to have a low anaerobic threshold, hence it burns quite a bit when exercised. But with a few sets it should be able to get conditioned enough so you won't feel it unless you are doing intense workouts.

How are your shoes? I used to get that when I had some really bad shoes. It effected my soleus as well. Once I changed them though, it went away.

i feel the shin muscle pumped that i cannot do the same, even be on the treadmill for a while cause they hurt when i do DOnkey CaLve Raises. I dont know they pump me up llike crazy.

Since they are not shiin spints, when i do get those, my sister massages them. She does some crazy shit to them since she used to run Cross Country and Track in school, i guess they showed her shit like that. Well when she does that, it goes away the next day.:)

I get the same pain from running only for a few minutes, I never used to get the pain before I started working out. But I don't get it on an elliptical machine. I though it might be the weight of the calf pulling down everytime my foot landed, since my calves have grown quite a bit since working out. I never thought of it as being a problem with the muscle not getting enough oxygen, especially since the problem has gotten worse as my body's gotten in better shape. I wonder if you taped around the calves and shins to hold that muscle in place, if that would allow you to run. Just some thoughts.

no, it happens regardless of what i'm taking or not.

                  i have "okay" shoes.

they have one of those front calve things at my gym - BUT - i have given up working calves for i believe they are already too large for me and they grow "too well".

plus, my f*ing boot barely zip b/c of my calves already.

Just have Bouncer buy you a set of drums with a double bass pedal and see how fast you can do it. Do this until your shins burn each time for about an hour each day. Then when you can make it sound like in Good Times Bad Times by Led Zeppelin, you won't have any more problems.

Oh and I hate you cause your calves grow "too well".

Do you raise the angle of the treadmill when you do it?

If so, try not raising it, just using a flat plain, lot's of time it is the angle that puts pressure on the muscle.

also, like other said, eliptical you probably won't get it

i've done so much elliptical i wanna puke.

i get the "pump" both on an incline and on a flat - so i don't know what's causing it. i was talking to a runner today who said to try to loosen my laces....?
