you sure you`re stretching properly, sometimes if i just walk somewhere really briskly i get that, a good stretch usually sorts it out. it is a really weird sensation though isnt it.

well lots of posts but look at the origins. where does the pain come from. lactic acid build up right? why does that occur? lack of anaerobic conditioning in that particular muscle. Its like doing slow leg extensions for the first time, it burns like shit but it gets better as you get anaerobically conditioned. same with the front shins. I have found they have a low threshold of anaerobic work until they start to burn but they can still be trained and it will delay or elminate the problem. this is the easiest solution and they won't get bigger so don't worry about that.

well - i'm done training calves. i kid you not. i'm not exaggerating when i say they grow like crazy. i don't want to grow unbalanced. and as it already is, my legs overpower my upper body. as i have no desire to bring my upper body up much more than where i'm at, i need to bring down the legs a little.
with that said, what i think you're trying to say to me is "suck it up and keep walking - the pain will go away".

I have had the same problems on and off. I agree with the shoes comment-they will definitely help if your shoes cushioning is not sufficient. Getting a good pair of running shoes (usually ~85 retail) helps enormously.
But stonecold is probably more right. I've had bigger results just doing toe raises. I workout at home and don't have one of those machines. I just stand on the edge of a step with my toes hanging over the edge and contract my toes up as much as possible. This helps enormously. Good luck.
