Try supersets, with 10 second rest after your first set of say bench and then go do a set of pull-ups and then rest 90 seconds. Or you can cut your rest to 30 seconds tops. You will have to drop some weight if you are a regular talker and not a stickler to timed rest, but the returns far outweigh any ego.

If you want to condition and make it like GPP style training, you need about 45seconds-1 minute rest. You can go 3 minutes between exercises. I am training like this now and it is not easy at al

in between sets just rest enough to change the weights - and after 3 sets of the same exercise - rest for 1 minute - 90 sec's then off to the next... this will definately make your heart rate go up !

Supersets are definitely killer. You can basically workout continuously and keep your heart rate way up there but not overwork any single muscle group.

All these suggestions are good. Periodically use them all and decide which one is for you.

you should only wait long enough so your heart rate doesn't drop. No one can tell you at what point that is. If you do continuous workouts with your sets close you will get anaerobically conditioned which means your heart rate will drop faster after a set so to keep a higher rate you will need to keep your sets closer and closer to the point where they are almost supersets. But this is the extreme obviously.

I actually often wear a heart rate monitor and follow this type of training advice. I try to keep my heart rate above 115-120. This seems to work pretty well.
