  • Training till you puke?

Does it do more harm then good? Or teaches you to push through the pain to your absolute limit? I personally think its good mental conditioning to fight through the temptation to quit. You let your body make the decision not your mind.
    What are your thoughts?

I have done it twice.....once cos I was sick and I still went to the gym and second time cos I trained legs so hard, I excused myself from the squat rack and proceeded to vomit in the mens......I then continued through the workout.

I guess if you are going to hurl you cant stop it!!

I don't think puking is necessarily bad for you if that's what happens when you push yourself, but some people just naturally puke easier than others. I think some people could push themselves forever and not puke--might get nauseous, but wouldn't puke. If you puke when you push yourself really hard, then you should puke once in a while!

I've never puked either, but I feel like I am every leg day! It's really bad now that I have changed my intensity; I rest only 1 minute between sets regardless of how heavy or what movement I do. This is fine with everything else, but when it comes to legs my heart feels like it is going to jump out of my chest! It could also be b/c I don't do cardio anymore, LOL.

It's happened to me twice - both times on leg day. I was preparing for a show and pushed myself super hard. Ran to the washroom, got it over with and then finished the workout. Wasn't fun.

i only puke when i'm sick as a dog....i dont allow myself to get overheated

and wheyman says its maybe because he doesn't do cardio...i play baseball so needless to say i do a ton of running and sprinting in the 90 degree weather, so maybe that's why

Ive only puked once. It was a pretty bad experience. I work at a gym and all the trainers were doing legs together. Well keep in mind im about 5'4 135 lbs and im keeping up with these bastards. We all try to outdo each other so training gets quite intense. What set me off was when I was up on the squat rack and i had 225lbs and got it 7 times, failed on the 8th, but my boy kept me going until i hit 12 reps. I puked in the bathroom and I went to my car and laid down because i was going to pass out. I probably sweated like 5lbs of water. Usually when i train legs i get lighthead and nauseas, but only mildly......Ever since i started doing cardio all the time my workouts have been much less painful.

It's certainly not good to do it intentionally, like from training. You bring up stomach acid and it will chemically burn your throat. Acid reflux disease is some serious shiite. I had it when I was much younger and it created ulcers from the hydrochloric acid solution in my stomach. It will screw you up, so don't drive yourself that hard regularly or you WILL encounter these issues. In my case, it require surgery that set my life back a full year.

well I have never...I think it normally happens when people do more than their bodies are ready for...most of it is a lack of anaerobic conditioning. add to that some people eat the wrong things before a workout.
