below parallel every time... i have much longer legs than i have torso, so i was initially worried about my knees, but i haven't had a single problem. my legs have actually improved a lot in terms of ham/glute tie-in development. plus, i'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to competition depth... can't get redlighted when you hit the ass on the calves ;)

Your knees are a hinge not stoppers...
Think of you knees as hinges and they are made to open and contract, not stop half way. Therefore when you squat and that is back or front squats go ass to the grass your knees don't have to catch you halfway and your gluts catch you at the bottom and in my case my gluts are larger than my quads therefore can handle the weight.

This is true. Another way to put it simply is that stopping half way is technically using your joints as the brakes, instead of allowing your calves and hams to naturally brake you.Originally posted by mastakillahRed Meat, damn thats a good way of lookin at it. I'll have to tell fools that next time they say dont go past parallel.

Ironic, cause just last week I got props from two older vets the same day when I was doing my deadlifts. He was like, "Man those are the best fucking thing for you, glad to see someone doing them. There's only like maybe 4 guys here that do." Felt good to get some praise for doing shit that I hate. Now if I can just get to five plates on each side, i'll be happy.Originally posted by SloppyJoI don't know if it's just AL or what, but I almost never see anyone do squats. Same thing with deadlifts, I almost never see anyone doing those either. I think it's funny, guys walking around with decent upper bodies on little matchsticks.

for myself, stopping at parallel is terrible on the knees, it puts the pressure of the stop on them. as diamond cut cows described it to me, using your knees to stop midway is like using them as brakes, and brakes wear out after a while. if i go all the way down the pressure seems to be spread out throughout my hams, glutes and quads, rather than just the knees and quads. i dunno, i suppose it's going to be different for everyone.Originally posted by beefcakeThis is true.
