  • Knee issue...HELP

Ok I'm a big squater and love to go below 90 deg. ya know "Ass to the Grass" style. Well here recently, with light warm-up weight now, my knee on the outside outer part of the knee cap has a pain that kicks in right at 90 and below. It's kind of like a muscle burning feel, not one of those constant ligament aches. If I wait for about two days I can begin to squat again but nothing over 225lbs before the pain comes back, and it only bothers me for a few moments after racking the weight then it goes away and I'm fine. What the hell is the deal with my knee? :hang:

If it is the outpart of the knee it could be one of three things that I can think of....the patellar tendon( for the knee cap), the lateral meniscus, or the lateral collateral ligament.

If it's a burning feeling it could be near the conection point of the muscle to the tendon. If it's a ligament or meniscus, usually it will be nothing really and then a slight movement will give you a sharp pain. The nerves in the ligaments and tendons just transfer pain from pinches and pressure.

Thanks guys and gals, I think it's just one of those things ya need to rest and work around it. I will take it as my body way of tellin me to back off for a while, I've been deep squating for about 4 years non stop, light in the summer months with front squats and heavy in the cold months with back squats. So for now until I feel it's time it will be the basics without squats, what do you all think?

I know I'll probably get alot of static over this, but, IMHO, going "ass to the grass" with heavy weights brings the inevibility of joint and/or connective tissue damage, which you may have suffered, if only slightly. Many people do squats that way and swear by them, but I think by going further than parallel, you're playing "Russian Roulette". Again, just MHO. BB
