  • Another Deadlift Question

Alright guys, I have two questions for you...

    A. When you are deadlifting, is it normal to kind of drop the weight on the ground, not just let go of the bar, but I mean, damn when I go heavy I can't just let it down slowly to where it just hits softly. Is this normal?

    B. I guess this is the more important one, tonight when I was doing deads I was on my second to heaviest set, and on the second to last rep, it felt like my right hand went numb. My grip was reverse and this was the hand holding the bar with the palm facing down. I could still feel stuff with my fingers,( I know because I bit them . LOL) But it seemed to affect the middle and ring finger the most. This lasted the rest of my workout,... about 30 min. As I sit here it has been about an hour, and they are still a little numb. Anyone know what this is, or any suggestions.

    Sorry it is so long
    Thanks
    Woody

    A. As long as you don't have a sudden jerking movement pulling your body to the ground you should be fine.

B.You created an intense pressure on the nerves and restricted blood to your hand. Your nerves probably had a slight trauma and are lying dormant. The feeling should slowly come back with in 24-48 hours back to normal. If not you might have some severe nerve damage and should go see a doc.

I lower the bar with some control when doing reps, but I'm certainly not trying to do a negative. At the end of a heavy set, there tends to be a bit of a "kaboom" when I put the weight down.
