  • Cable Crossover mechanics question

I started doing cable crossovers yesterday and i had my right foot in front of my left.....if i'm doing 4 sets should i alternate my stance?

right foot in front, then left foot, etc...

You shouldn't need to. If you feel like you are leaning to one side, just spread your feet out a little more. But you shouldn't be having any hip rotation.

i experiement with them till i feel comfortable. I balance myself with the weight im gonna use. Ive seen people moving to the sides, no balance.

The only thing I change is which hand overlaps over the other in the middle. Stance remains the same. Right leg forward.

I do the same. I've tried switching the forward foot but it didn't seem to make a difference. I would make sure that you do switch which hand crosses in front and make sure that you cross the hands over by at least 6".
Another option is laying down on a bench under the cable x-over. Then you don't have to worry about standing at all-I like to use this one occassionally and it always feels great afterward.

Yeah, same motion as cable flys but lay down on the bench between the two sides and then I cross the hands to get maximum contraction--supposedly builds up the very center of the chest-gives you better cleavage!

Yep, just like when I'm standing.

I did a variation of these this morning with an inclined bench. I determined that the range of motion that I utilize for this exercise is best defined by the range of motion of my upper arm. My upper arm begins just below in line with my upper body and goes to a position that is about perpendicular to my upper body. This will probably require that your hands cross over assuming you maintain some angle in your elbows.

thanks, i'll try it on a flat bench next week on chest day

i've been staying away from any inclined movements because it hurts my shoulder

Try some standing cable upright crossovers. Seems to hit the clavicular pec major pretty well for me since you can't do the inclines.

That's the nice thing about doing the xovers on an incline bench. There's no pressing motion so it's a way of hitting the upper pecs without putting any stress on the shoulders. Just make sure you keep the shoulder blades squeezed together during the fly motion.
