  • Leave the sweatshirt at home

For those of you who think it's good to build up a sweat during a workout, think again. Over heating during a workout increases glycogen use and decreases the amount of time that you need to replenish it. What does this mean? Decreased fat loss when doing cardio since the fuel is glycogen instead of fat and a decrease in an anabolic environment for weight lifting.

I never believed that your body heats up significantly enough to make a difference any ways. I think people are confused by the amount of water loss thinking it's fat loss.

Yeah, that's one of the points too. That over heating makes you sweat and that the temp. weight loss makes some people feel better.

I am trying to find some sources for the glycogen loss part though. I have had one or two people challenge the claim and it's totally appropriate to challenge something if there are no sources. I hope that someone can reply that has knowledge on this, as I am having trouble find the sources. I read it from a fitness rag on a flight and don't remember which one it was. My wife may remember though.

The best thermoregulation and caloric expenditure abstract I have my friend:

King J. Thermoregulation: Physiological Responses and Adaptations to Exercise in Hot and Cold Environments. J. Hyperplasia Research. 4(3), 2004.

I think you'll find the info. you need :)

No, to make it fair, I have to retire in order to function at work tomorrow, and I probably wont return until around 4pm or so tomorrow.... so that gives you time to pick a side (doesnt matter to me, I know the right answer, but I can debate the wrong) and research it.... with that time, I expect a solid, adult debate :)

Normally, I would agree, but in this situation, there IS a right or wrong...the debating will lead to that....
