  • shoulder pain...help

the other day i was doing my usual chest work out...got to doin my dbell press workin my way up to 105lbs(alot of weight for me). i have done this many times before with no problems... i completed my final set with a bit of a struggle...not entirely sure if it was this that did it but moving on to my next work out i got a huge pain in myshoulder in the bone right above my delt. went on to try to do some declinebut couldnt even hold the bar up. i could not continue my work out atall...i went to the gym, this morning, same as last time to work back/bi's....back work out went good but my right bi seems to have been affected by my shoulder and i cant lift as much as before...

not sure what it might be....does n e one have an idea of what this might be and wut i can do to recover...im planning to go to the docs soon when i get the time...

    please help...

Take a few weeks off, i had the same thing from doing flat bench, which is why i only do incline and decline. And havent had a problem since. Trying to work through it will only make it worse

Sometimes it better to give your self total rest, If you wanna workout legs only for a couple weeks that be fine but I'd stay away from anything upper body.

          thanks Meat12 and FitnessBrat

ill make sure to lay off the upper body for a couple days to a week and see how it goes...another thing i forgot to mention is that when i touch the area where it hurts, the bone part, its a bit sensitive and painful....but ill take ur advice, and most likely put some icy/hot on there to see if it makes it better :)

          thanks again

I'd go to the doctor, could be a tear. You never can be too careful when it comes to shoulders. If you try to work throught it you may further injure yourself. Good luck

I through my shoulder out doing skull crushers , with too much weight.
after 10 months of ibprofin and icy/hot I was finally ready to see a real doc.
The real doc. cut off part of my coller bone that connected to the shoulder.
Recovery time was 4-5 months to try and lift again
Take a close watch on your shoulders, they are nothing to play with
or mess up. Just a thought !!!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE CARE !!!!!!!!!
oh yea , I did keep lifting strong the whole 10 months, thinking that it may work itself out ,but it didn't

                thanks for the replies...

i dont really like the idea of not being able to work out my upper body at all...i was wondering maybe just do low weight? or should i just let it completely rest with no upper body work out at all? :(

and say if i cant do n e work out for upper body....does n e one have any advice on other things i can do besides just legs that i cant really work out all the time...that and cardio?

                let me know

                thanks
                :)

Your risking further injury, time off isn't a bad thing. If you work through it you could injure yourself to the point where you can't lift at all. The shoulder is a complex area and any sign of pain should be enough reason to take a break.

/\ If this is happening definatley see a doc, something is definately wrong.

Most presses and lifts are going to somhow effect your shoulder. I would avoid it.Get it checked out and see what the doctor says. Good luck

Where exactly on the bone are you talking about?

it hurts in at the point where my collar bone meets my shoulder joint...not as much anymore like it use to but im still concerned because even when lifting groceries i get pain in that area and it feels like if my shoulder is gonna give out..hopefully the doctor has some good news for me...i dont like being like this, it makes me feel weak...

                        thanks all

Sounds like a possible AC sprain (acromioclavicular)
For an at home test, take a look in the morrior with your shirt off and see if that little bump is the same on both shoulders. If it is the same it dosn't mean it's fine though. I can tell you what to look for, but until you have seen it, it can be hard to find.

well just yesterday i was feeling around that area and noticed that it is a bit swollen, and as for the difference when i look at it i can tell a tiny bit of difference...but also the side that i hurt(right)...my clavical for some odd reason that i do not know y, is shaped differently than my left side...about half way down my right collar bone there is some sort of groove or indent in the bone that i dont have on the other side...i didnt notice this until not to long ago which might explain y i get pains there and when i run for a long period of time...i dont know y its like that, i havnt been in an accident to have caused it or n e thing...soo i was probably just born that way,idk...
