What are some good ways to tell that you are going down deep enough? I just started doing squats not too long ago. I'm pretty sure that I am going down enough because I'm not even doing much weight and it hurts like hell, but I just want to be sure.

Top of the quads parallel to the ground. The lower the better though IMO.

I dont understand how you can make a statement like that. If you do a squat correcty, you are doing as much as a box squat and more. Personally I live by deep squats and I KNOW that box squats are not better than that.

I understand what you are saying there, but if you can do the same thing without a chair or a box, how is that better than doing it with the support?

Box squats are good. Best for strength/powerlifting and for anyone wanting to add variety to routine. I wouldnt say they are so great or the best for bbld'ers. I dont feel like explaining it but you work the muscles around the hips gluts a bit more, doesnt put a lot of size on the legs IMO.

Parallell squats are fine for the average Joe. You guys doing ATG have any knee issues (w8t under 350 fine)? My knees are fine until i do repetitive ATG squats for weeks on end expecially once i get to over 405 my knees bother me (form is righteous). I personally dont feel they are much better anyway. Then i have to take a week off from squats to let my knee heal. I dont feel the bennies out way the negs. Maybe its just me...

Maybe we are talking about things in a different manner. Sounds like Rado was talking about quad strength...? I am talking about leg strength. I could see the difference there.

With Box Squats, you actually sit on the Box for split seocnd or so then restart the movmeent up. So in some sense it helps with your strength at the low end of a squat and like NYC said it uses your hips and glutes a bit more. Box squats are more geared towards powerlfiting.

NYC-knee wraps with weight over 350 or 405 would help you a ton. I personally don't wear them but my one friend had the same problem as you and since he has worn the wraps for his heavy sets, he has had no problems.

Also, I find squatting to failure or redicuously heavy for consecutive weeks really puts a strain on your body and cns. I try to throw somethign else in once in a while or have even a lighter day with more reps.

ya you have to sit for a sec to get the full work out. i do box squats with rubberbands that = 200 lbs at the top and another 125 lbs in chains with a 55 bar and two 45 lb plates so its about 470 at the top and 200 at the bottem this really makes you fast. no bull shit i can jump higher now.

are you in the USA? I only ask because you are talking about a 55lb bar.

I just saw this. How exactly is that a box squat?
