  • Barbell vs. Dumbbell Curls

Is there and advantage to doing BB curls for biceps? When I work my bi's I like to do concentration curls because I feel that it takes the momentum out of the workout to focus more on my bi's and also not let me use the front delt during the workout?Am I right in thinking this?Im not as concerned about "mirror muscles" the way some guys are but I still want to get the most outta each workout. What approach do you guys take on your bi's?

Heavy rows and variety. I usually do some bicep stuff after my back but I dont really have a set routine for them. Sometimes, I use a straght bar, sometimes the EZ-curl? over and underhand, sometimes dumbells or cables. Just like all the other muscles, I want my biceps to be fully developed. I feel like I get the pretty good just doing back workouts so a few sets of curls are just to finish them off for the day and try to make sure the have been worked from as many angles as possible.

I use both. I alternate from every other workout. One workout will contain all bb exercises. The next week will utilize all db exercises.

i personally prefer bb than db's. I guess the feel to it. With bb's I feel as if i get a better workout as to the db's. Thats just me

Yeah, I use both. I've read alot of pros don't use BB curls as much, but they clarify that they're not so much looking to build mass at this point in their careers, they're looking to define and add density and hardness. Like the others who have posted, I rotate exercises. You shouldn't just stick with one particular movement every time anyway. I don't, however, like preachers. But that's just me. BB curls are good, but don't over do it. If you go too heavy too often too long, you can develop symptoms similar to shin splints except in your forearms. Trust me, that frickin hurts, for quite a while too. It even gets tender to touch, not just during workouts.

Ditto. Biceps are one of the smaller muscles and it's very easy to overtrain. Usually the large compound movements (rows, pull downs, pull ups etc...) are big enough movements to work your biceps sufficiently. If you're feeling up to it you can throw in a few sets of bicep exercises.
