  • Interval Training?

It is summertime and that means running season. I am looking to improve my endurance so I can start running in the 5 and 10k races. I have heard that interval training works well to increase cardio, but I don't know too much about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Right now I am only running 3-5 miles 3 days per week. I am doing this at a 9 minute per mile pace. After a couple months of doing this I really haven't improved my time that much (10 minute mile pace before) and I seem to be getting just as tired and worn out as I did when I first started. I was looking to change it up a bit to shock my system, and get out of this rut. Any ideas?

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fartlek

Fartlek is one of the key advanced training techniques for running that there is. It is also key for sports like rugby and soccer where you have to shift rapidly from aerobic to anerobic regimes and back. I would say that it is also key for developing the "kick" in endurance events.
