  • Partial deadlifts to a bench

If you like doing partial deads, you might want to try lowering the bar to a bench as opposed to doing them in a rack. For one thing, you don't have to worry about the bar touching down on one side first and throwing off your balnce. For another thing if the bench has a lot of padding it gives you a little spring at the bottom and you can pile on more weight. It's also alot quieter since you don't have the bar clanging against the metal rack.

I think something's wrong with me with rack or partial deads. It's either too heavy and I can't move, or too light and I feel nothing, or even too heavy and I feel nothing

It's mostly a traps exercise, but you should be feeling it in the rhomboids, teres major and minor, and lower back.
