  • Valium and Working Out

I wasn't sure where to put this so feel free to move it if necessary (not that you need my permission or anything :D)...

I am supposed to start taking Valium every few hours over the entire course of this weekend (due to a problem with my jaw) and I'm curious as to whether or not it will interfere with my workouts and/or muscle recovery. I have legs scheduled for tomorrow and shoulders scheduled for Monday - would it be pointless to work out while taking this crap....

I'm not sure about the recovery, but it would be dangerous to work out while taking them. Your chance for injury is greatly increased. Think about it, your muscle can't push the load because they are "relaxed", what possibly can happen next?

every 6 hours? well at least you wont be depressed if you cant workout.

i think its ok - just a guess.
muscle relaxants do not act directly on the muscles, they act centrally (in the brain) and are more of a total body relaxant. if your feeling "really out of it" just play it safe.

you'll be fine , no biggie

obviously don't go nuts in the gym

for short term it's nothing, long term it can mask overtraining to a degree

valium actually has some anti-catabolic properties.

Thanks for the help ya'll - I have just decided to skip my morning dose before I head off to the gym - I can tell you one thing though - I do NOT like the way this junk makes me feel...

Yep - that's exactly what the doctor told me - he said "Just suffer through the excruciating pain from what ails you ALL damn day and then take a dose before you go to bed..."

You know - the fact that I can't talk/chew/eat/close my jaw completely/open my jaw more than halfway (and to a lesser extent breathe easily) should be okay as long as I take a dose at bedtime....
