back in my squatting days I would agree with this...if not only for the leg stamina but overall body stamina, squats kicked my ass in a "Whole body" way....I can leg press and my quads will burn but I can still do a full workout after...when squatting sometimes I would just walk out of the gym after a few 20 reps sets of squats (well, hobble, not walk).

what are the weights and reps you guys are doin to do just squats and thats it? here is what i do.
      squats
      135lbs 20 times
      225lbs 12 times
      315lbs 12 times
      455lbs 8 times
      455lbs 8 times (sometimes less)
      cybex leg press/1 leg extensions
      490lbs 12-20 times/80lbs 12 times
580lbs 12 times/90lbs as many as i can do not more than 12 usally around 8-10
      580lbs 12 times/same as above
oopps i do 5-6 sets standing calfs first usally a drop set at the end.
of coarse all this changes from day to day but that is close to normal for me, any suggestions. other than im gonna try leg press first!

way back in my squat days I would hit over 250-300 for the 20 rep sets...I never went real high in weight, I liked longer sets....
