is there a specific time proven for maximum recovery for an event? for example, if you train 5 days a week for 4 months for a 35 mile running race (which im doing)? what i mean is, how long rest shall i have before the event, like stop training?

a few days rest would be best. make sure you don't have any soreness ect before the event.

are you a runner? have you done something like this before? I know when I USED to run (I hate it). my coaches we always had a peak time (its the same with like a bodybuilding diet). I don't know much about long distance running events. you have to put your body in a state of overtraining to achieve your goal. my gut feeling is that you won't need to train the same exact way up to the date of the run. I would think once you have your distance under your belt than you can start doing specific training days while throwing a few more days rest in but still keeping 1 or 2 full distance days to make sure you have that. God i can't imagine running that long....good luck with everything.

Well im in the army and i have done similar events before, some longer, with weight and over hills lol. i however i have always taken 2 days off beforehand, some people saying a week is maximum recovery and some say a day. i just wondered if there was any sort of rule or proven result. Any 1 else doing the 2 oceans marathon in south africa next march?

ya, i don't think there is a set time. i know sometimes after a heavy workout i can be sore for up to 5 days. just make sure you aren't sore anywhere.
