I do them and they are hard for me too... I am a girly girl.
I can get about 4 by myself and going wide. Then I have someone hold my feet or I use the gravitron unit. I don't do them every workout, so when I get them in they tear my back up :)

I start every back work out with pull ups. But like you said, nobody seems to do them. I think it is because most people can't, and instead or working their way up, they would rather do pull downs.

I almost always incorporate them into every back workout. Hang a plate off yourself and do some. Damn that burns!!

sob and i only ever do pull downs too. do you all think there is a difference between an exercise like a pull down and a "more functional" exercise like a pull up?? if you think there is a difference, is there less of a difference if you use the pull up machine that helps with the weight?
how about a squat rack vs. squat machine? i assume the only difference is using more stabilizing muscles for exercises that seem "more functional" - but what have you all experienced?

in the case of pull up VS pull down. i actually dont think there is anything more functional about a pullup. pullups dont pump up my lats like pulldowns though.

My fat ass does them...in an attempt to gain some back strength. When I feel like I am strong enough to do weighted pull ups, for good reps, I will be happy.

Most my workout these days is a lot of compound body resistance exercises.
