  • Injured my pec/shoulder

Haven't flat benched in ages, did it last week and it was fine so thought I'd do it again this week. Anyway I felt something go crackle in my shoulder/pec tendon so stopped right away. Taken some ibuprofen and just resting up now, I don't think its a propper tear but something definitely partially went.

I'l see how it goes and next week do like one plate a side or something for reps and get the feeling back. Hope it recovers fully put I don't think I'll be going heavy for a while

Thanks bro, I'm really depressed about it, just had my late meal and walked around a bit, its in the shoulder where the front meets the arm pit. The thing is I haven't flat benced in ages, last week I started and I should have rested more in between, my shoulders were tight and I only did chest tonight because my lower back is still tight after deadlifting on saturday, I shoulda been doing legs.

Hopefully its not too bad tommorrow, its definitely only a small tear at most. I'll just focus on other things for now. I should have spent more time getting used to the movement but I did 170kg last week and thought well I did that so I'll do 180kg this week

I should have listened to my body

I had the same injury (i think) a year back. My doctor said its an inflammed frontal rotator cuff tendon. Bascially connects your shoulder to your pec. I fucked it up while doing DB shoulder press. I heard like 8 pop's and crackles in my left shoulder. It was bad becuz i couldn't lift shoulders for 3 months. My doctor put me on Naproxen, and i was icing that region 4 times a day for 15min. intervals. It killed my strength and i couldn't lift heavy for upper body, just legs i was going heavy. Even to this day my left shoulder will give out and get tired much faster than my right shoulder. Same with bench, curls, and tricep extensions. I recently started lifting heavy on my shoulders, and NOW i am seeing gains, 5 months after my injury is a lot bro. Just be very careful and don't push yourself too much. Take it easy for a while, because shoulders are very important IMO. Make sure to ice that area, take pain killers, and see a doctor ASAP. Good luck.

thanks dna, I saw my chiro/physio today who gave the whole shoulder pec area a really hard massage yikes it was deep. It looks like its where the front delt meets the bicep tendon and pectoral insertion point, and luckily its not too bad. I have full range of motion and it seems like more of a fray than a proper full tear.

I'll wont do shoulders this week now and I'll see how the week turns out, hopefully next week I can start bach with 15 rep sets with slow soft form on chest and shoulders and see how it goes.

skip all overhead pressing along with bench - use cable machine for chest go light

I went straight to my chiroprocter not the normal doc, the regular doc would just give me inti inflamatories. The Chiro massaged real hard after establishing that I still had full range of motion. I' preying its not as bad as I first thought, glad I stopped right away.

its more sore now tha it was which I expected after the massage, but now I know everything is where it should be, muscle fibres lined up etc. just gona keep the protien up, vits and rest.

Moral of the storey, just because you can doesn't mean you should:wacko:

a chiro really isnt the person to see. he wont be able to tell you anything about the ligaments, tendons etc. you may have a tendon holding on by a string and the chiro is giving you a deep tissue massage. lol. you should go to the doc and get and X-ray and MRI. this is what i did not to long ago to make sure everything is ok.

I would have to agree with Bouncer. After going to my regular doctor, he signed off that i should see a specialist. After seeing a specialist he determined my condition.

ya I'll do that next week if it stil feels odd, the problem with regular docs over here is that as long as you can walk out of there ok they don't really care. Becasue its a state system its basic, over the water you all have to get private health insurance, but the upside is they probably look at you i more detail. I may have to just push hard if needs be, for now I feel sore but theres no discolouration, which there would have been after a tear and following the deep tissue massage.

feels much better actually, thanks for asking, I'm really happy I got things done in the right order and got the massage. It hurt worse and over a larger area for a couple of days but now it feels generally healed although I still know its there if you know what I mean.

It has never bled and I feel that I haven't lost any integrity but I will take it very steady now for a few weeks. I'll start with 1 plate a side and if it feelr right, move to 2 plates and stick at that for a few weeks. I think it was mainly that I haven't flat benced for a long long time and I was attempting to do a different form, elbows at 45 degrees instead of 90. It stressed my shoulder more than its used to from that angle.
