So why so we not see competitive runners wear these shoes??

I wear a 3-4 year old pair of sneakers to the gym. Not too big on my fashion while I'm working out.

Because they have only been around for a year... I fully expect for these to start gaining more visibility.

Minimalistic shoes are becoming wildy popular in many running circles, from casual runners to marathoners.

I havent seen much minimalist penetration in sprinters because sprinters are trained to extend their long stride with a heavy heel strike for more forward pull. Hence the design of most running shoes. The irony is that the needs of an elite sprinter and basically the rest of the running world are vastly different.. but most shoes are designed with the needs of the sprinter in mind.

        Yes and no.

We are creatures of habit, and have been wearing shoes since we were infants. Imagine how hard it would be to correct the habits formed by X years of wearing shoes with no formalized training. Some aspects of running will be self corrected with time, such as redevelopment of the arch, lengthening of the achillies, and the development of nearly all of the supporting muscle in the foot/ankle.

To feel the difference of running in shoes and running barefoot...

        Try this...

Run a quarter mile at your best pace in running shoes.

Then try it barefoot. Try to keep the same pace, using the same style of running.

Ironically, you may not be able to complete it because of the stress caused by heel striking... or to compensate for the heel strikes, you may run on your toes... but your calves are underdeveloped(trust me they are) so they may give out due to cramping.

I was demonstrating to a client the planche progression, the position in the picture is called the "frog stance" and is the most basic of the planche's.

Handstand pushups are one of my fav exercises.

Man, I'm glad you posted those Nekra. I've found a few sites w/reviews. Basically, everybody has been really positive about them.

I have a friend who practices Chi running and he is now going to try a pair out this week. I ordered the sprint style along w/a pair of injinji socks.

                      Vibram FiveFingers:

Sizes vary, it would definately get them fitted at a store as opposed to purchasing them online.

I've never seen them in stores and I went to a bunch of different places a couple months ago when I was getting running shoes. Where did you get them?

Damn, it looks like the closes store is 5 hours away. With the cost of gas I could just buy a few pairs and see which fit best lol.

The hardest part is the toes.

You can just order a pair, if it doesnt fit... I think you can exchange it for free.

Shipping might catch up with you if you have to re-order a few times.
