  • For those that workout early in the day.. might want to rethink it.

This is nothing new but interesting none the less. I was watching this show on the science channel about time and its effects. They did all kinds of test on different things but the one that was interesting for us was the weight lifting and pain tolerance test.

The scientist took these test early in the morning and then later in the afternoon. Every time their strength increased dramatically and they were able to take much more pain as the day went on.

Basically, no matter what you do, our body's are driven by an internal clock that rises and lowers hormones etc.., you will never be stronger early in the morning then you will in the afternoon.

That's good to know. Now I have a reason for never working out in the morning.

I've read a study like that. In addition to being stronger later in the day, they also said that people who work out in the evenings are more likely to come up w/an excuse not to go. So nice to go in the evening, but more importantly...just go.

i find the opposite. After class and work, if i try to work out, i feel spent. I can't get my mind right. But when i work out in the morning, i feel great. Though, i do eat twice before i go.

that has more to do with life getting in the way and you being tired after school etc. we are talking about all things being even. the body is stronger later in the day.

Did they say anything about your body just being more awake and warmed up? Does it have something to do with how long it has been since you woke up, or more a time of day in accordance to the sun?

I've noticed that as well. Like on days that I'm just totally exhausted from the week, and take a day to just veg out, and I go to the gym later in the day- I'm COCK strong.

Did the article mention anything about AM cardio?

I read an article about Chuck Lidell and it was saying that he stays up late and gets up late so that when he fights his bodyfeels like it is in the sfternoon, not late at night.

sounds like a bullshit excuse for him simply being an alcoholic party animal who stays up all night and sleeps during the day.

My favorite time to work out is 1pm- 3pm or 4pm any later all the Yuppies crowd me and start bothering me. If I workout in the mornings it's ok I'm just totally unmotivated. Maybe cause all the old people.
