  • Taking time off...

Ok guys lately I've been seeing bunch of threads about taking time off and loosing gains and i just wanted to put my two cents about it ,now remember this is only my opinion and please feel free to voice yours.

Is loosing your gains that easy? Answer is simple NO.
I mean most of us here been training for a long time even if you've started training just a few months ago and you made some progress that progress is yours to keep, IT WON'T GO AWAY. even if you stoped training for a month as soon as you get back in to it your body will take you back to that point you were at within a few days you might be little sour for a few days but that's normal.

Only way you can loose some of your gains(we are talking about a healthy person here) if you take time off and loose tons of weight and I am not talking about taking time off for a week and loosing couple of pounds I am talking about taking time off not trainig at all and loosing 10lbs or more then you will loose your gains but even then moment you go back to eating healthy and traing hard before you know it all your muscles will be back, and that's my friends called MUSCLE MEMORY!!!

Human body is an amazing thing, just make sure you take care of it( like clean diet, proper rest and smart training) don't beat it too hard and it'll take care of you for a long time. We are all young now and we have many many more years ahead of us in our bodies you gonna need those joints, tendonds and muscles for a long time.

So...train hard but most importantly train smart.

i guess your talking about one of my threads my question is just is it beneficial to my body to take time off let it recoup for 4-7 days of complete rest im not worried about losing gains but helping progress my body by letting my muscles recoupe

He is talking in general. Many people are just afraid to take any time off at all.

I would disagree with him and stonecold though. i think taking to much time off will definitely cause loss of muscle. for example, when i went on my cruise and took off from working out for 10 days people in the gym were making comments about how i has lost size etc..

i think the most i would feel comfortable taking off would be a week. any more then that and my body just does not feel right.

Yep you are right I am talking about in general, my other question is how long did it take you to get back to where you were at?

LOL, I'm not sure bro I think its good to take at least a week off like four times a year minimum. I doubt very much you lost muscle on that trip but you may have lost pump, thats all

Yeah, that's why I asked him that question, it's funny how everyone thinks they loose muscle after taking couple of weeks off in reality they only loose pump and maybe gain little bit of body fat and some water weight.
If we all lost muscle that easy people who don't work out at all would be dying left and right from muscle loss. Lol.

I've implemented a "new" routine for myself that involves taking time off from certain muscle groups - if I feel my legs are stagnating (or being overworked from soccer etc) then I'll quit training them for two or three weeks and when I go back to them they respond much better than when I left off. My next step is to lay off of ALL "push" exercises for the upper body for about a month and then rotate to laying off of ALL "pull" exercises sometime after that. I'm thoroughly convinced I've benefited from the two previous times I have tried this - does anyone else do something similar??
