  • 405 new Personal Best Deadlift...

Great back workout tonight. Even in the car on the way to the gym I was focused. Started like I always do. Warmed up with two light sets of lat pulldowns. Then 1 set of 12 pullups with my bodyweight. Then over the next 3 sets I added weight until I had 35 extra lbs on the belt, which I got for 9 reps on my last set of pullups.

Then it was deadlift time. I have actually taken 2 weeks off from deads, so my lower back felt fresh, even if the movement felt a little stale. I decided to see if I could finally get 4 plates on each side. Worked up gradually, hitting 1 rep, adding 20 lbs, hitting another, adding 20. When I got to 385, it was a little tougher than I'd hoped. I had done it before, and it definately wasn't any easier this time. I basically told myself to stop being such a pussy. I put the 4th patty on each side, went to get a drink of water and came back. Found the best song on my IPOD, and tried to get myself jacked. (which is a challenge sometimes) Right before the lift I looked in the mirror, and noticed a group of 3 18-19 year old guys and 1 girl about the same age watching me. Normally this would piss me off because they weren't minding their own business, but this time it didn't bother me. In fact, I let out a little chuckle under my breath, took a firm stance, and pushed like hell through my legs. It went up like nothing. Set it down, and pulled it up for another rep! (This one was a challenge, but I got it!)

Finished off the workout with 4 good sets of DB rows, my last set with 100s which I got for 8 reps on each side. I tried to do a few sets of bent over lateral raises, but there was no point, I was so burned out I couldn't rep 20s.

I know a lot of you probably warm up with 405 for deads, but at 190, I am happy I finally worked up to it. I'm only 22 so hopefully I have plenty more Personal bests ahead of me.

NICE MAN, thats good...last week i maxed at 315, but did 2reps. it feels good doesn't it? lol

I actually like when people watch me, gives me a boast. Before i did one rep i looked in the mirror in front of me and saw 4 people staring at me, all i could say was "thats right motherfuckers look, because ya'll can't do this" lol

DNA you crack me up man. That's too funny.

Congrats Grinder on your new PR. Always feels good to be able to hit a new PR.

I'm recovering from a groin pull. Almost 100% now. For a year and a half I wasn't able to put more then 225 on the bar to squat. I wasn't able to do deads at all. Just starting to go heavy again. Squatted 485 for 2 reps and pulled 455 for 7 reps. Scared to go any higher right now but it feels good.

Thanks all. Hopefully I can get 500 by 2009. I should be 25 or so pounds heavier by january too.

Squat is slowly getting better, but its a little behind my DL. I started doing all my squats to a box a few weeks ago, and since then my knees are taking much less of a beating.

Well I used to squat deep, but even though people say that deep squatting is actually better for the knees, it personally hurt mine to the point where i could barely get myself to perform decent reps. Squatting to a box keeps my form and depth consistent, and it takes a little bit of pressure off of my knees at the bottom.

O OK OK, gotcha, i do both type of squats. One week ass to grass squats and than one week box squats. I believe they both are very effective and they work for me.

I loaded this up for my second set of warmups today - if it makes you feel any better I threw my back out with it though - can barely even walk tonight :(

Damn, thats equivalent to me throwing my back out doing my 2nd set of warm up which is 225. Feel better bro. And hey, at least it was your 2nd set of warmup instead of your first, then id really feel like a pussy!
