  • under recuperating

I saw this posted somewhere else and though it was obvious and to the point. I agree with his point. We need to look at "over training" a little differently.

    here is his post.

"Over training. Personally I feel this is a poor choice of words, that leads many to undertrain. I feel a better term would be "under recuperating". Now granted, working 1 bodypart for 3-4 hours straight could be considered "overtraining",but if you have the energy to do that, your not working hard enough to begin with, which would lead one back to the conclusion that the intensity is so low, that it negates any so called "overtraining". What are your thoughts on this."

usualy the term is used to describe under recouperating in that people arn't resting enough before they train that body part or train at all again. So I agree that much

However, if you do train one bodypart for 3 hours, then you are over training in a bodybuilding context, there's no other word for it

yes, and that is the point of the post. if you can train for 3 hours you aren't training right anyway.

over training is used in the context of "Chronic" so whoever posted that seems to be thinking in terms of an "acute" symptom that would occur immediatley. you can use terms however you want as long as they are defined clearly.

You know 20 yrs ago nobody said anything about overtraining. I mean look at the old interviews with Arnold he used to spend 3-4hrs a day every day in the gym and read the way Platz used to do leg workouts. My first BB coach(22 yrs ago) put me on 6 day split the worked every body part twice a week and took at least 2 hrs to get through. My wife said to me a couple of months ago "you are almost as big as you were when I meet you" And I now have the benefit of a lot more science and protein a far superior set of supplements and a much greater understanding of physiology in general. I am not making any conclusions just adding some perspective maybe.

ummm 20-30 years ago people were talking about over-training but more in the concept of "correct training" Arthur Jones was just in his hayday at that point re-inventing the wheel because the previous inventors made it square but insisted it was best.
