  • Swimming for cardio??

Well today I ran about 3 miles outside with rado for my cardio. (This was instead of my usual cardio which i do at the gym on the elliptical). Just like usual when I'm running, my knees hurt, my back hurts, and it basically just sucks. Not to mention its 95 degrees outside. We get done and the first thing we do is jump in the pool at our apt. complex. I decided that I would do a few laps up and down the pool. After about 20 minutes of this, I am drained, much more than running could ever do. My shoulders were burning, and best of all, I wasnt killing my knees!! Has anyone used swimming as their main cardio? Whats the best way to structure it? To me it seems like a HIIT structure would be the best. Maybe something like...

    -4 hard laps
    -30 second rest
    -4 hard laps
    -etc...

Me and rado are getting up at about 9:00 tomorrow morning and spending about 30 minutes in the pool before breakfast. (Hopefully backed by some good advice from you people! :D

I think it's good exercise, just not sure it's the BEST cardio available.

Is swimming an effective fat burning exercise?

One of my buddies decided it would be a good idea to teach my son the phrase "fo shizzle" Saturday night AFTER I told him I was working on cleaning up my mouth because he seems to be VERY impressionable lately - wouldn't you know that little guy spouted off an impecable "fo shizzle" at breakfast Sunday morning when I asked him if he wanted another pancake

ha, let him come to jersey for a week. he would come back home wearing a tracksuit and you wouldn't even understand what the hell he was saying anymore.

So me and my bitch did a lot of swimming this morning. We did 12 sets of 4 max-effort laps with a 30 second rest between each set. Seriously draining stuff, my shoulders are on fire too. One effect it has on me is that I am hungry as hell. I know cardio increases appetite but this is on another level. I am about to eat my dog. Luckily I have plenty to keep me bust today.

its good for cardio - is it a heated pool?

*non-w8t bearing - so i would do it to take stress off the knees.
*check FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal under activities - I would think its good for burning calories.

His best bet would actually be weight bearing preferrably a cinder blocked attached to a chain. :D
