What comes after weight loss? The next step..

    The guy wants to drop to 200lb period, thats his goal, 200lb at his heights isn't too skinny to be unhealthy so let B help him.

    After six months or a year if he wants to build muscle, then we can all help him but for now he needs to get to understand his body and how it reacts to certain foods and certain amounts, once thats known, he's in control, he has the power

      I understood what Bouncer was trying to do, just couldn't grasp the reasoning behind it. But between your guys responses, I see why delaying weight training may be done.

        I disagree 1000 times over - after losing 65 pounds and still not liking the way his body looks (flab etc) he likely has lost most of his muscle. Continuing to take him down at this point is beyond the point of diminishing returns. Maybe he needs to look past the scale itself (like most of us) and realize that without the simplest of workout programs he is only going to continue to hang onto his bf and lose what little muscle he does have left.

        The diet help us perfect but he needs to be doing some type of weightlifting - preferably a circuit routine to begin with...

          false. bodyfat will come off and muscle isn't much of a concern in the next 8 weeks or so it will take to lose the fat. weight training would start soon there after.

            Hey everybody sorry to bump this thread but I just wanted to give you all an update.

            Now I have cleaned up my diet like bouncer sugested, but for some reason I find myself very very hungry lately. I didnt feel like this before, I was always kinda hungry but it was something I could mentally overcome. I find myself wanting to eat things I shouldnt. But dont worry everyone I havent. Does anyone know why I feel like this? Another thing that worries me is I have lost 6lbs in about 10 days, I dont think thats healthy and I dont think it was all fat maybe muscle.
            I might know the reason and tell me all if im right. I have doubled my cardio in effort to drop weight faster. I still run in the morning 30-45min but I also added an evening cardio where I do a light jog for about 20 min and then just walk for 10 min. I feel fine not weak or anything. Am I overworking myself? Maybe im so active that the food I eat is just not enough.
            Is there a diference between running and jogging? And if so which is better? I usually push myself in the morning running hard for as long as I can, then just take it down a notch and run the rest. In the evenings I do a light jog, and dont run or push myself so hard. Also at 6ft 1 200lbs is a good weight right? I already look kinda scrawny after loosing so much muscle the last year. I used to work out back in the day but I didnt know wut the hell I was doing. Still I was able to do a one rep max of 250lbs on bench and maxed out a one rep max of 400lbs in squat. But that was way back like 5 yrs ago. I know I lost allot of muscle, but I knew in weight loss it was innevitable. Thats one reason im eager to take this weight off, and start some weight trainning. Thanks everybody...

              You understand that I can't exactly agree to disagree on something I think you're wrong about don't you?

              I deal with this stuff on a daily basis as it is bro. Had the guy come on here asking for advice 60+ pounds ago I would be in complete agreeance with you but NOT at this point in his weightloss. I guarantee you he has already lost too much muscle by dieting down as low as he has, I guarantee he is only going to continue to flaw his physique by trying to lose even more weight without strength training....

              I'm sorry to be in such defiance of your idealogies on this but he is well beyond the point of diminishing returns - no two ways around it. For his height and weight I would venture to bet his body composition is backasswards - he isn't like you and I and I deal with people in these situations all too often - he can't keep losing weight right now. If anything he needs to turn things completely upside down - back WAY off the cardio to no more than 30 minutes 3 days a week with either moderate interval training or circuit style cardio (dot drills, ladder runs, box jumps and on and on intertwined with pushups/pullups/situps etc), adjust his diet to have carb cycling with much higher protein contents AND implement a solid workout routine consisting of hardcore compund movements 4 days a week on a push/pull rotation - a one day on one day off cycle for maximum gains and maximum recovery.

              He will simply have to accept that the scale will need to be placed in the closet for a while and trust that his overall body composition is far more important than weight. Changing body structures take TIME and since we are all homeostatic in nature he needs a complete overhaul of his current setup - not to continue stripping his body down to flabby skin, bones and likely much higher bodyfat levels than anyone would desire. Once he has incorporated weightlifting and backs off of the cardio for a minimum of 3 months THEN he can return back to his quest of losing bodyfat (although he will likely have lost quite a bit in the process) - changes have to come frequently and a minimum of 4 a year IMO - 16 week rotations work perfectly in my experience with myself and my clients.

                i see your point and it makes sense.

                maybe i applied my own style or bodybuilding principles and that simply cant work for someone who doesn't workout in the first place.

                  So it's time to move on to strength training? I read the above posts but cant make much sense of them. I will gladly put the scale away or bury it in my back yard cuz im tired of looking at it, and I understand that muscle weighs more than fat. So it will be a healthy weight gain. Now I dont have the money to get a gym membership, but I do have a set of free weights I can use along w a bench.

                  Fog_hat....since u deal w people in my position on a regular basis. Could you sugest a simple workout routine for a beginner like me. Something on a weekly basis I could do. Or you could recommend a thread that has all this info.
