  • front squats vs "classic" rear squats

how many of you do front squats. i've always had problems in my hamstring area when doing squats. so i decided to try front squats, and it felt a LOT better when doing them. still a bit of pain after a couple sets but taking it slow and working my way up.

so just curious who does front squats.

I've tried them a few years back in 2004 for a few weeks but stopped all of a sudden. I just stuck to regular squatting. I got to give them a try next week when I train legs again. Did legs today.

I do both I usually do one set of lighter weight front squats after doing back squats to really target those quads. You are right in your observation front squats tend to remove some of the load from the posterior chain and that is why your pain is less. If you don't already you might want to stretch those hamstrings between sets as well as the rest of the leg. I have found that my flexibility and strength are corollary.

What do you mean problems with your hamstrings while performing squats?

            http://www.superiormuscle.com/forums...hamstring-pain

this is the thread i started a while back about that. the pic there isn't accurate. the pain is more above the circles. right below the glutes in the inner leg. pretty sure it's the upper part of my adductors.
it doesn't matter how light or heavy i go, as soon as i do a set of squats to get my legs working, let that be 3 reps or 30 reps(depending on weight), i will always have a really sharp pain in that area. once that pain is there, believe me, there is no way i can keep going. i've tried but my legs just give.
also, the pain NEVER starts until i'm done the set. couple seconds after.

and 3v1lj03, i have been stretching alot, doesn't help, i've also tried not stretching. nothing as well.

I love front squats and feel they really bring out the Quad sweep. I do heavy SLDL for the Hams...
