  • Shattered my heel

Right when I am about to dedicate my self to training I get a calcaneous fracture, the docter said I broke my heal into 5 pieces. in a week I have to go in for surgery, after that it is 12 weeks sitting in a bed keeping my foot elevated or the doc says I will have problems walking for the rest of my life.

My question is what couuld I do for training just to maintain my body till May.
I was thinking I would get those adjustable dumbells from bowflex and i could still do back chest bicep and tricep exercises, low weight high reps. any tips would be helpful.

Ugh that stinks. Those type of injuries take SO long to heal.

Seems like you should be able to do all upper body movements still. Couldn't you even do like leg extensions?

3 months sitting in a bed? you sure about that bro. seems pretty excessive to me. i know people with knee and hip replacements that didnt have to sit in bed for that long.

seems to me that you could take 4 weeks off after the surgery and then just go back into the gym and do upper body. even things like leg extensions and seated ham curls should be fine. no pressure on your heal. dont do calf raises though. lmao.

well yesterday I just talked with my surgeon he said no weight applied to my foot for 8 weeks, what the problem is with this injury I have is that it is critical that the bones do not misalign at all, if they do he said I will end up with problems walking for the rest of my life. the bone I broke controls lateral movement in my foot, also part of my heel splintered off and fractured where my achilles tendon attaches, so everything is very fragile right now. The problem with bein able to go the gym is that this area of your foot has alot of tissue and when u damage it it swells out of control some people have had to wait up to 6 weeks be for they could even have surgery then another 12 weeks recovery on top of that. what I have to do is keep it elevated above my heart for the first 5 weeks then no weight for 3-4 weeks after that so for those first 8-10 weeks I was just gonna do some light upperbody exercise while I am bed ridden.
