I always trained alone because I thought if I had a training partner I would talk alot and lose my concentration. Well I started training with a friend that just got outta the military. The intensity of my workout has probably doubled. We don't even talk to each other just lift weight and spot each other. the unspoken competition makes me lift with more intensity and I constantly get those last vision blurring reps. I recommend finding a dedicated fellow lifter if you feel like you are just going through the motions.

I train by myself. If I had a partner, invariably my workout length will increase and I my workouts are too long as it is for my liking. The only time I wish I had a partner is during heavy days on DB inclines when I have a hard time getting the weights up off my thighs to the lifting position.

I can honestly say my time in the gym has increased by about 15 minutes more; instead of being in for an hour I am there for 1 hour and 15 min.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostI train by myself. I love having a workout partner. He recently bailed though cause I'm not social at the gym. He is the complete opposite.Originally posted by Konitz View PostI can honestly say my time in the gym has increased by about 15 minutes more; instead of being in for an hour I am there for 1 hour and 15 min.

It's nice to have someone you trust there to spot for you, but other than that I prefer to train alone.
The opportunity to talk, get distracted, bullshit just increases too much. Plus you have to wait on someone to show, match schedules, compromise on sets, etc....
More trouble than it's worth.

I think it really comes down to what you like. Almost everyone at my new gym trains with someone, as opposed to my old gym were everybody trained alone but new everyone so you had the spotting when you needed it.Originally posted by decadecadeca View PostIt's nice to have someone you trust there to spot for you, but other than that I prefer to train alone.

I just always want those last couple reps ,and I am not gonna ask people for a spot for every set I do in the gym.
