  • Never say Never

I know I said I was done with power lifting But, after a couple of months off of the strength peaking programs and back on BB routine and since Bounce dissed my bicep development I am back in training for on Power lifting comp on Sept 19. Started my peaking routine this week. My knee still hurts and I only have one tendon left in my left rotor cuff but I am going for it anyway. I have relearned how to bench press with my disconnected left rotator and If I can get my bench up to 315 I can make the rest of the weight up in squat and deadlift my best lifts anyway. I plan to compete in 198 lbs weight class I am 206 right now so I have to get diet in check and get focused. I plan to compete in the masters class and the open class looking at the records I can come in very strong in both class. I will let you know what I injure next and how it goes.

I dont know dude, my honest opinion is your only shortening the amount of years you have left to train. This stuff is ripping your body apart. train and eat for the fun of it, train for health. dont train to destroy your body. just my 2 cents.

Especially at your age - and that is NOT calling you old. Just fact that your body starts breaking down anyway. One bad lift and you could be living in pain the rest of your life.

agreed, once you simply cant lift anymore or have chronic pain you would be saying to yourself, "shouldnt have done that power lifting shit" lol.

not trying to discourage ya bro, just concerned because you already have so many physical issues. your body is saying "please let me rest" lol.

Yes, you are old.... LOL.... you are the same age as me if I remember right... 43....

Anytime you are on the wrong side of 35, it pays to be extra careful, I think. I am as fit now as I was in my twenties but I certainly am MUCH more careful at what I do so I can stay injury-free.

Hey, I really love all the genuine concern for the old man. ( I mean that) Made me chuckle to read it may be true that it is ripping my body apart. I will see how the strength peaking goes if I get any more pain than is normal for me I will quit and get my shoulder repaired so I can pass the pickles at dinner with my left hand.

how about you get your shoulder repaired, rehab it and then start from there.

your basically a car with a broken suspension and saying, "i want to go get in the race." well the only thing that is gonna happen is more damage and a bad placing.

trust me on this, your making a bad decision. as much as it may hurt to hear.

i would get the shoulder repaired and the knee fixed -- there will be other comps down the road !!

                  get yourself healthy first

I agree with getting things fixed first. I am working on getting my wrist fixed right now. I can still train and do most everything but there are times when I lean on my hand or what ever the wrong way, something pinches and it can ache for a day or so. Sure I could keep going with it the way it is, but the longer I wait, the more damage will be done, making the repair more extensive, the rehab longer and more difficult due to the compounding damage and each year I'm just that much older which also makes the recover more difficult.

OK, thought about it. I don't think my suspension is broken I may have a couple of shocks that are out of wack or a maybe even an inner tie rod that needs adjusted a little. but, it is no more than that. first and least bothersome is my knee. The pain in it is not joint related it is caused by a condition called runners knee and was most likely caused by the very large amount of road work (cardio) I did to drop a weight class for the last contest. So, to help that I am going to stay in my current weight class of 220, the lack of caloric restriction and not increasing cardio will prevent aggravation of this condition and help keep other joints healthy. The most bothersome is my left shoulder if I had injured it directly in the weight room I would be more concerned with my other joints and connective tissues. The fact is I injured my shoulder in my bed you may say this just proves your unfitness but, I disagree. It has been 4 months now since I first injured my shoulder and after about a month of mind bending pain that even Vicodin at 4 times the prescribed dose could not touch. The shoulder is more or less without pain it is also without range of motion and fatigues very quickly. I have to some degree been able to overcome this with intense rehab (my own) and I am now within 50 lbs of my personal best bench when only 4 months ago I could not even bench the bar.
SO, I have decided because of the focus and the energy it gives me in the weight room I am going to compete and the torpedoes be dammed!
Thanks for the concern and the advice. I will still listen to any voices of reason and to my body if it says stop I will stop pushing so hard. Maybe I need some gh :)

I understand wanting to achieve goals and challenge yourself, but this isn't what puts food on your table (is it?). So try to think about how proud of yourself you will be, if you get an injury that won't heal itself or be permanant.

sorry dude, cant go along with ya on this.

i see a bunch of reasons in that post that you shouldn't do it but for some reason you have made it seem ok in your mind.

what do you have to gain by doing it?

once again, go get these issues fixed and then think about it.
