i now get into the habit of wearing a heart moniter while doing cardio . it wirelessly connets to most cardio equipment out today '

no more guessing games on wheather i am in my target rate for optimum fat burning -

the moniter has made a tremendous difference !! once you learn your target heart rate for optimum fatloss you will be surprised on how fast you can lose fat making the majority of your time on the cardio equipment unwasted !!

the moniter forces you into keeping your heartrate in optimum burn mode

    Scott,

I preach the importance of Heart Rate monitor training to all my clients.

More often than not, pace is not a good indicator of exercise intensity. You could be working out well above your anaerobic threshold (the point and which your body stops burning fat for fuel) and pulling glycogen out of the muscles as opposed to stimulating lyposis.

    What HRM do you use?

I used a Polar RS400 sd for running, and a Polar FT80 for everything else (yes even strength training)

I may start using this now if thats something the two ends of the exercise spectrum can agree on.

BS, what kind do you use, the things you hold onto on the treadmill never work for me.

polar HR chest transmitters are the most comfortable, and most cardio equipment is coded to be used wth them

Nekra why do you use different ones and if I buy one today is there one that's good for both. Also what is the cardio machine doesn't sync, how do you then tell your heart rate?

I use different ones because the RS400 allows me to program cardio workouts based on HR zones prior to my workout. This keeps me on track as the watch beeps at me when my heart rate is too high, or too low. And it allows me the ultimate control of my cardio workout data.

Please remember that I get labratory peak VO2 testing for AT(anaerobic threshold) and AB(aerobic based) every 3 months.

FT80 is one of the best out there right now for all around training. It includes both cardio and strength protocols, can upload HR data online easily. The STAR training program keeps you in line with your goals as well.
