I think everything has its negatives. I think sitting around and living a "safe" life can lead to bone loss and muscle loss etc..
You can always find negatives to anything in the world. Eating to much healthy foods leads to an over abundance of a certain vitamin and that can harm you blah blah...

True- but do you think there is any validity to his claims? I mean- we all know that right after a comp you put on weight very quickly. I thought the inability to fee satiated post contest was very interesting.
But, do you think that prolonged diets, such as competition diets, permanently damage your metabolism?

no i really dont. look at the older bodybuilders. they arent a bunch of fat slobs due to a fucked up metabolism.Originally posted by redsquirrel View PostTrue- but do you think there is any validity to his claims? diet induced diabetes is more a case of eating too many simple sugars over a long period of time, forcing your body to work so hard in stabalisingOriginally posted by NewbieChris View PostI always thought actual bodybuilding in the sense of doing competitions, etc. would cause diabetes because of the rapid weight loss and gain. The amount that it fucks up your system and all.

I get that, but bodyweight fluctuation would seem to do the same thing, period. Your body is going through huge swings in size and composition which would also force your metabolism to work hard to stabilize itself.Originally posted by Mr incredible View Postdiet induced diabetes is more a case of eating too many simple sugars over a long period of time, forcing your body to work so hard in stabalising

your body is trying to achieve homeostasis (OK in B's case its trying to achieve homosexuality...but we haven't got time...) so any calorific changes you make over a sustained period are going to have an impact on your metabolism, and metabolism and the hormones that manage it will no doubt effect physycological along with physiological being. Long term damage from restriction, no I don't think so as long as the nutrition is sufficient. The body will adapt again
