There are always people at my gym with whom I bench who seem to do a pretty random amount of sets (although maybe it's not that random to them). They start really light, like adding maybe tens after warming up with the bar, then they ramp up the weights in a few steps until their maximum potential, and then they do another few sets with decreasing weights. The thing is that these are usually the people who can bench more than I do.
So I guess my question is: is this better than a strict 4 set routine?
