  • rack pulls over full deads

i have always done full deads but tend to hit my hams and glutes more for some reason no matter how heavy I go regular deads or sumo deads. I was thinking of changing to rack pulls from just below my knees to hopefully hit my back more than my lower half , for you all who have done both do you think from the rack would have better gains for my back? Thanks

IMO rack pulls are all thats neccassary from a bodybuilding perspective, so long as you have that foundation built up doing regular deads, i.e. if you have served you time doing deads so that you have a good strength foundation then rack pulls are all you need, you can control the movement to use the muscles you want.

Art Artwood was a big proponent, not my favourite physique but a great back

Yep go with the rack. hammys and glutes have to work hard to get the weight from that low. Start up like you said and it will be easyer to focus on the back.

I do em both and love em both :)

But prefer to pull from the floor, no shoes, chalk and well my form has improved. I maxed @ 225 for 4 not too long ago but starting a new program and after injuring my elbow well haven't attempted to pull heavy. My PR is 255 x 1 @ a comp, I have racked 355 woohoo and of course the ding dong who took a vid of me doing it got it while it was 1/2 way up (that didn't come out right) :hibb:

I love to DL , sumos too!
