  • What is this excercise for?

Your standing with your arms pointed forwards, holding them straight. You grab hold of the cable handle (barbell style), forehand grip. You bring your arms down, holding them straight.

What muscle group does this train? Is it back or chest?

Yeah it got sold to me as a lats exercise, but then agin, if you do pullovers on a bench, it's a chest exercise, so I'm confused. It doesn't seem like something very effective, or is it?

standing pullover (cable machine) - primarily a lat exercise, imo

when you lock your arms straight out it puts tremendous pressure on the joints of your elbows.

So to lock is like stretching them out to the limit? I suppose this is a no-no in all exercises?
