  • Training with chains

So i was working out, and these two guys come in and have the oddest workout ever.

They start off with bench and they were doing 135lbs each, but had on these long thick chains. Links were about 2 inches long and extremely thick, probably used to pull 16 wheelers.

Anyway, they had 45lb plates on each sides, than they had this chain laying on top of it bar on each side and was dangled to the floor. They were lifting slow with good posture.

Any idea why people workout like this?

After that later in their workout, they did the same thing but did squats instead.

Saw the same thing in the movie "Bigger, Faster, Stronger"

powerlifters, the chains increase the weight as the bar comes further away from the floor so effectively the weight becomes heavier as you near the end of the movement.

Its useful for breaking sticking points

Oh thats pretty cool. I personally wouldn't want to carry a bag that is full of heavy thick chains and use it at the gym while lifting.

That is very true I have my own gym no need to go somewhere else. But as I said chains and bands have just got popular in the last 2 years about the same time you were in diapers "SON"

My gym has bands, but no chains. Like I said, these were heavy duty chains. No joke.

How often do you guys train using chains?
